(2)15" Treo ssx's vs. (2)'06 re xxx 12's

Given the same power (4000 watts rms), and each in the correct ported box, which would likely pound harder? Sound better? Need more power than 2000 rms?

Obviously the treos have the cone area advantage, and the listed rms of each is close enough, but what do you guys think? I don't suppose there's anyone out there with actual experience with both, huh?

well since the treos are "spl" subs AND have more cone area... they SHOULD be louder.... however, from what i hear, they don't sound bad either...

the xxx can take 2000 rms all day and MIGHT sound better than the ssx's because they are SUPPOSEDLY "sql" subs.

Cone area isn't everything. The XXX's will have a longer throw which will allow them to displace more air. As for which to choose, I'd take the Treo's but thats my personal opinion. I would just rather run Treo then RE.

No one said it was, but its the obvious advantage all things equal!!
Cone area does not equal output, air displacement does. Added cone area is only one way to increase air displacement. XXX has the Treo beat in one displacement department, excursion. People like to ignore cone excursion alot these days because they see relatively small xmax subs hitting HUGE numbers in professional SPL rigs. The problem is, that's only a single freq burp, with a ported setup very near tuning, where cone excursion is minimized. Put them in sealed setups and the XXX's would eat the Treo's for breakfast.

But I know what you are thinking, sealed isn't "ideal". yes I know, everyone thinks ported is the only way to go these days, we can discuss ported too. Once you start to deviate away from enclosure tuning, enclosure efficiency goes down and cone excursion increases. Cone excursion can and does make a difference in ported boxes contrary to popular belief these days, it just doesnt matter nearly as much with those one-note-wonders cranking out SPL burps. For most daily systems running music, yes cone excursion matters.

The third puzzle piece in air displacement is enclosure size/type/alignment. In comaring subs, we should assume both are on equal footing here, so I dont see where anything needs to be said.

Think that covers it, briefly.

get the treo's i got my hands on a treo SSi and they make great subs.
Well...I actually have the treos right now. I've been bangin' them now for a few months and ****! - They POUND!!

I just have an opportunity(maybe) to trade a guy for his two '06 xxx 12's - with me coming out of some cash though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

You know how it is...I was just wanting to try something different. I'd just hate to spend money and make the trade, and the xxx's don't hit as hard as my treos. I guess I know I should prolly keep the treo's, but the new xxx's are supposed to be the end-all be-all subs, right?

More comments? Suggestions?

keep the treo's. i know the XXX is good and all but be different and keep whatcha got.
Yea?...I feel ya. I was leaning towards just keeping 'em. I wouldn't mind the trade, but it's gonna cost me some real dough just to do it. *sigh* I dunno.

My XXX is crazy, sound and loudness it's amazing. I did get mine to smoke a week ago playing it too long 5+ mins with abut 2700w going to it...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif but pretty sure it was just because the signal was distorted making the amp clip:uhoh: but hey, put it back after checking it, works fine, loud as ever:D

They are amazing, I recommend you trade...because they slam:)
