2 12" JL W3v2's vs. 2 12" RE SE

i am very aware of where the SQ goes away...

when i had my little bout with these audiobahns i

"tried" in my car i turned my gain up on my amp

to support the extra [farting] power of the

audiobombs...

now... when i put my JL's back in i just eyeballed

the gain back down... well... i didnt turn it down

enough and the JL's just would give these

quick aggressive bumps... all the smoothness

was gone... it didnt sound good or powerful...

i spent a good hour driving and fiddling with

the gain to get it back where i wanted it... now

they sound great again... but i do have them

pushed one tiny smidge too far... so in some

instances the low SQ comes back...

its all trade offs... but these subs are set...

you sound like a bigger fan of the W7 than the W3's...

i realize that the W7 is obviously much better... but did

you have a bad experience with your W3's???

W3's were great for my setup with 2 subs but when I went down to one sub I needed a more powerful sub. I had 500 watts going to the two W3's which could handle 600 continous together, so then I wanted more trunk space and went with a single RE SE 12. I really should have just stuck with my single 10W7 since I have pretty much come full circle. W3's are great but you would need 3 or 4 W3's to compete with 2 Re SE's assuming your current amp situation. I'd rather have one or two subs with more watts going to them than less wattage and a trunk of subs.

Add another 12W3 and your setup would rock if you want to make a new box and lose even more trunk space.

someone else suggested the third JL... but i dont

want three subs back there... thats too much...

2 12"s fit nicely...

plus since the RE SE's perform better in an even

smaller box than the JL's i wouldnt have to worry

about losing space if i decided to keep with the

sealed box...

it was a good suggestion...

with this amp would i actually be

hooking the speakers together

with any more than 2???

my box has each chamber sealed

so how does that work??? not that

im going to go with the 3... just

curious...

well... cause my amp has 2 + and 2 - speaker outs...

so i have each sub wired to the amp using all the outs...

so if i wanted more than 2 subs wouldnt i have

to connect the voice coils of one sub to the

voice coils of another sub... like a chain to the

amp...

my amp recommends no more than 8 subs... i assumed

you would have to wire the subs together to pull that

off...

as far as the sealed thing... if i were to have to wire

the subs together i would have to put a hole in the

inside divider of the box to run the wire???

The two outlets on the amp are internally wired together so they essentially the same outputs. It just gives you a place to run another set of wires for another speaker like you did before. You would wire it with one set of wires to one sub and the other set to the other sub. I assume that you have to wire inputs on the back of the box, one for each sub. On the subs you would wire them in parallel.....hook both positives together and both negatives. Look at the second diagram that says "parallel/parallel" . You can do it exactly like the diagram or you can use both outputs on the amp.

i have each sub now wired

+ to + for the voice coils to the + terminal on the box

- to - for the voice coils to the - terminal on the box...

the amp looks like this

+ - + -

i am using all four connections... the amps manual says

that to bridge it for one sub you only use the

first positive and last negative...

my question was more about getting more than two

subs... but i suppose it would be just like in the

diagram... where as i dont have it exactly like

the diagram because i can use all the outs on my

amp to run just the 2 subs...

i was just thinking that wiring the subs together

would be weird getting the physical wire from one

speakers voice coil the the next without creating

a hole in the box...

OK, then your amp would be bridged and you would use just one + and just one - on the amp and running two subs would look exactly like the diagram link on my previous post.

To wire several subs within the same box with seperate chambers you could do it on the outside of the box with the wire terminals (red/black) or cut a hole in the divider of the chambers and then run the wires through and seal it with caulk or a glue gun. But as you can see in the diagrams on this link as long as you have the wire terminals on the outside of the box, one per sub, you would never need to cut any holes in any dividers.
