2 10's or 1 12

Ok, so everyone pretty much told me not to go with JL audio for my subwoofers, so I went down to my audio shop to audition some speakers and came across TREO engineering subwoofers. I auditioned their TE subwoofers. 2 10 inch subwoofers. I was blown away by these subwoofers, they sounded amazing, they would pound but they were crisp and clear as well.

No hear is where my question comes in. The TE's have a 220oz. magnet and are rated for 500watts rms.

The other subwoofer the guy at the shop recommended was their new SSp series subwoofer in a 12 inch. Now this sub has a 326oz. magnet and is 1000watts rms.

Both of these subwoofers would go into a small sealed enclosure, roughly 0.8-1.0 cubic feet.

I am looking for a sq setup that doesn't need to rattle the neighbors house but still give good bass.

Either choice is good. The 10"s will most likely be louder, though. After all, they'll be seeing the same amount of power while there's quite a substantial difference in the amount of cone area.

I've been interested in Treo for a little while now too, particularly the SSX components and subwoofers...

oh you said sealed. my bad airspace is ok. how much power do you have? also sq is all about staying true to the original recording so balance and fine tuning will play much more of a role than a particular sub brand (assuming your not buying trash subs).

how much power and I don't think either 2 10's or 1 12 will do well in that small air space
Yeah, I kind of assumed he was talking .8 to 1 cube per driver, which would be fine. If the pair of 10"s are sharing 1 cube, that's too small.

Treo recommends:

TE 10", - .8 cf sealed

SSP 12", - 1.1 cf sealed

Ya, the airspace is .8 to 1.0 cube per driver and the power I'll be sending to them would be 500watts rms for each 10 inch and the 12 inch will receive 1000watts rms, so essentially they will be receiving the same amount of power. With the 10 I would be powering them with a Treo RSX1900 and the 12 I would more than likely be powering them with either an RSX1900 or the Kenwood excelon X1200M which I hear is also a good amp which puts out its rated power and then some.

I thought I have read where that amp was test and was sending 1324 watts rms at 2 ohms. Was that just a load of bs?
Its probably legit. Most people here seem to judge amplifier quality by if its overrated or not. I guess if the marketing people decided to market the amp for 10% less output than its really capable of, that automatically makes it a better quality amplifier. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Kenwood is by no means my first choice for amps either, but they generally make at least competent products.

edit: well, their subs just plain ****, I'll give you that.

my vote goes to two 10's. more cone area for output, more motor force and the work load is spread between two subs instead of one so they should last longer. but as far as sq it's gonna be about the install and tweaking you do imo.

IMO, I'd go w/the one 12" in a ported box (to use that 1.6-2 cf you have) and give it the 1k watts. Port it ~ 30Hz, or call TREO and ask Wayne what you should port to w/what you have and w/what you're after.

In a side by side test, a TE12.22 sub VS a SSi12.22 sub off of the same power in identical boxes on a TL, the TE did 2dB more then the SSi, but all in the room agreed that the SSi sounded better.

I run 2 SSi12.22 in a 3 cf ported box tuned to 36 Hz w/each sub getting ~550 watts, set up for SQ and I'm hitting in the VERY LOW 140's (~141 dB), in an 2000 GMC Ext cab Seirra.

TREO is JL's worst nightmare. Better SQ (imo and others) at a cheaper price then JL.
