L5s are great for the price. they definitely have the ability to have lots of output with daily usable SQ. just put them in a large ported box and tune in the mid 30ish range and you'll be good to go. i wouldn't recommend sealed enclosures if you like to listen to rap. i had two 10" L5s in a 3.5 ft^3 ~ 34hz enclosure... here's a pic:

What is a good power handling to run these on? I know the spec's say 450, is that about right or can they handle higher?

One L7... L7's are amazing and the 12" L7 is the strongest of them all.. the 12 is reliable as hell and can be pushed to its most outer limits and loves it
well, i know the older models that i ran (black cone) didn't really need any more than 450~500W. from what i hear the newer ones have better power handling, but don't quote me on that. i honestly don't see why 450 wouldn't make them wang chung though, otherwise i'd imagine kicker would have increased their RMS ratings.
