Get a 15" or 12" and you WILL outpound him..the SE's sound great and are more musical woofers..mine was loud as shit off 850ish watts..those SE's take way more than rated power

you wont obliterate him with 1 se 12. you'll probably be roughly the same on loudness, and sound better.
to "obliterate" dude, you're going to need more power, more cone area, and a well designed and built box. vehicle is a large factor too.

i would never listen to a sub that has that much power. It would drown out the highs, and would sound like shit.

you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. you said "it would." i'm assuming you've never heard a loud setup and are going off of what you think. while i'm not going to be doing critical sq listening with it playing at 150 db, i have a bass knob right next to me and can make it sound just fine with any music. when i want to blow peoples hair around and **** the air out of their lungs, i just reach down. speak on what you know. also, subs do not have power.
you do know its possible to amplify and upgrade "highs" right? even with the sub at full tilt playing bass heavy rap, i can clearly hear my components playing. when i had my XXX 18 in before, even ported it sounded REALLY good and blended with my front stage very well.
exactly for some of us were always going to want more power.

You should have seen how pissed he got when my other friend got a 15" type r. He was so afraid that he was going to get surpassed. But he built a crappy box for it. As a result he was unsuccessful. He's afraid of competition that's why he suggested me get extremely low-end wal-mart shit. He wanted to hold me back. But I ain't going to let him do that. So you want to know what? I'll go for the 12" RE Instead. Lets see how he feels about that.
