1999 Pathfinder Obsidian Build

Its not the pricey really. Come on, you have to show off the subs man.
Pfft. But then I would want to do LED's, but the dust caps are yellow so I can't do like a blue LED cause then it looks weird, and white LED's and just boring (this is why I don't think about visual stuff cause I get way too picky lol)

Change of plans on what amp I wanna run lol. Instead of doing a pair of AQ2200's I think I'm going to rock a cactus K5 instead. After rise, voltage drop, etc. I should be seeing around 3500-4000w which will be right around what my subs want. For burps if I want to I can wire down the amp to .25 and get even nastier lol

So you say you're going to have 4 subs but your box design is only showing 2.
That's the box design I'm going to be building real shortly. I just got my second 12 in from Nick last week. The final box is going to be about twice that size.

Gotcha. I dont think I could ever do a build thats never ending haha.
It's such a bad cycle man. Sometimes people ask me why I buy so much used/refurb'd equipment instead of buying new. I don't think they understand how nasty of a habit it is to not want to keep anything for more than 6 months lol

It really is hard for me to hold onto stuff for longer than a month or so too. I'm always getting small stuff to flip locally on CL but when I do a build, it always gets finished. Thats not to say I don't have plans in the future but for now I'm content on keeping the same equipment and upgrading other small things to see how things react on the meter.

Before I got my spl lab I was all about upgrading and now I just want to get the most out of what I have.

and you have a batcap 2k as your main batt? how was that with cold starts in the winter?
Yeah the 2k is my main. Starts up fine, survived the winter with no issues. Got it from RAM last year in the fall and it was resting at 12.8v fully charged. I was curious to see what it was resting at right now so I put it on the charger overnight and checked it in the morning and it was sitting at 12.8v still, pretty cool stuff.

Been working on the build still just haven't updated it much lately. Because I'm low on funds I can't really afford to so much add equipment as I can modify what's already there (I have a second 12 and 2 batteries waiting to be installed, need to get some money to afford wiring and wood). Went through the wiring for my power wire and rca's and cleaned them up a bit. Ran them with the stock wiring under all the protective casing and took out my front seat so I could run everything properly as well.

In the mean time I need to redo my false floor since my current one was thrown together real quickly and isn't very strong. That, and it doesn't extend as far back as I need it to. Came to work on it today and noticed that all of the factory sound deadener (aka asphalt fuuuuu) was going to be in the way if I wanted to make the floor flush...so I had to rip out all of that crap. Took a few hours and it was a huge PITA.

After getting it all ripped out:

Since they painted over the deadening all that was under it was some primer. Did 2 very thick coats of paint just to cover up the primer and clean it up a bit. All of this is going to be covered by the false floor so it wasn't really necessary but it would make me happier knowing it looked semi-nice under there.

Was finally cool enough today that I could actually get some stuff done.

Finished up the frame for my false floor:

I'm gonna be making some beauty panels for the false floor so you won't see any of this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Raining all day today so I can't really work on anything, but I disassembled my box today so I could get the sub out.

I thought I was going to end up using this box for SPL so I built it to be practically indestructible and I guess it worked lol. This hole is from me hammering a huge flat head into the joint and trying to pry it apart. It didn't budge and pushed the wood where the flat head was all apart. I had to do this like 8 times to get this piece off...that wasn't fun lol

I beat the **** outta that 12 running it off an AQ2200 @ 1ohm. Never smelled the sub, there is no coil rub and it's still wicked stiff. Got some ring terminals coming in from knu in a couple days so I'll be able to get my batteries hooked up for some nice electrical upgrades. Gonna drop the 2200 down to .5 as well so after rise each sub will probably be seeing around 900w each. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meter the setup with just the single 12 so I won't be able to make a very accurate comparison, but my goal right now with the 2 12's is to hit a 145 in the low 30's

Got the ring terminals in from Knu and got my batteries wired up (sorta). Just need to get some wood for the false floor and the box. Unless I manage to get a job in the near future, this may be another big halt in the build process //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Looks like I'm gonna be trading off the obsidians for a v2 nightshade 18 lol. I have nothing against the obsidians, but I've never owned a "beefy" sub before. Plus with the nightshade, I'll be able to throw everything my 2200 has to offer at it and it's not gonna care. Not sure what box I wanna go with, ported or bandpass. I'm gonna do some research and see what they perform best in. I might just go with a ported box for this...I already did my testing with the obsidian in a bandpass to find out where I like it. Building and testing a bandpass for an 18 is a lot more costly than one for a 12.

Quick vid of the temp setup (or temp box rather). AQ HDC3 18 on my 2200 @ .5 ohm. Volume wasn't up all the way in this vid cause I wasn't inside the car to keep the engine rev'd. Definitely a solid setup that's pulling an easy 145. Needs a new box cause the one I'm using now was made for a trail blazer and is too wide so I have to have the box mounted lengthwise with it firing off to the side. New box is gonna be a little bigger with a tiny bit more port (90 in^2 -> 100 in^2). Sounds really good right now, though.

I'm going to be getting the wood to finish up my false floor and also to make a new box later this week.
