1996 Grand Am head Unit Install Help

Ok I have a 1996 Grand Am. These things have huge head units and I want to install the Pioneer 1400. Obviously too small. Assuming I can get off the dash and wire it correctly, which I have no idea how to do, what do I do about filling in the gaps around the new HU? I need to buy a cage or something right? Where can I get these and how much are they?

Yeah your going to need a kit, they are really cheap so dont worry about it...it will clean up all the gap around your new head unit Check on Crutchfield and Sounddomain for the kits. Also your local shop should carry them.

I own a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix and I thought I would have the same problem with the bigger opening in the dash for my head unit. It turns out that its not that bad. Buy a kit for installing head units which are real cheap, and go about as you normally would intalling it. When you are done, there will be space between the top and bottom of your head unit but its not bad. I wouldnt worry about filling that space, because it looks alright the way it is. If you do have a problem with the space..than i dont know what to tell you, but aftermarket head units in I think all GM vehicles have the problem with the overly large space for the factory radio. Hope this helps your worries somewhat.

I have a 1994 Grand Am, in which i have installed an alpine head unit(1 din). The others are right, you will need a dash kit which you can buy from crutchfield, sounddomain, or even your local wal-mart. You will also need to get the wiring harness adapter. I can't quite remember the code for it so just look through the wiring harnesses and find the one that fits. I personally used sounddomain.com and I recommend them. They will have the adapter. Good Luck on the install.
