Since I own a 1991 Cadillac Brougham, I figured I might as well call myself that and the pix is one of my car parked here in downtown Coos Bay OR.
Having lurked here to see what the scene was, I figured it was time to register. Most of you guys are way over what I am in regards to car audio but I've found the posts here to be informative in regards to what makes good car audio GOOD. Whether it's brands, speaker tech, staging or whatever, it's been a real education to see what the current state of the art for car audio is these days.
The 1991 Brougham is not an SQ vehicle by any means right now. All I have added to it is a Pioneer 12 disc FM modulated CD changer. I have a pair of Pioneer 4x6 3-ways for the front to get installed and I am currently looking for a pair of 6x9's for the rear. This is El Cheapo Kraco 8-track Tech by you guys' standards but right now I'm just working cheap plus I just want the stereo system to be totally stealth so the thieves don't bust in. Who would steal a factory HU from one of these beasts after all? *chuckle*
Later on the plan is to upgrade the whole shebang but to do it stealth-style, with everything hidden. The 6x9's will be Pioneer REV/Premiers, the 4x6's will be Boston Acoustics and either one 4-channel amp or 2 2-channel amps will be mounted under the back seat. The amps will use speaker level inputs so I keep the factory HU, which is part of the stealth. The amps will be located under the rear seat so opening the trunk shows nothing. The factory covers over the rear speakers will be kept in place so no one sees the 6x9 upgrade. The only thing showing is the CD changer and it's flat black so it just fades away to the eye at night and does not show any "bling" in the day. I even have people ride in my Cadillac who don't even notice it or ask what it is!
As for the CD changer's wired controller, it was mounted into the small removeable panel just below the steering column. I just use the remote and only have to access the wired controller for setting input levels or the frequency, so by it being way down there and angled toward the floor, it does not show to the casual passerby or thief.
Will this ever be an SQ-grade system? No but it won't be stolen either...I hope...LOL! Later in 2008 is when I'll begin to buy the pieces that will eventually come together to make for some good times and tunes.
About 20 years ago I had an Alpine deck with Alpine speakers and a 4-channel Rockford Fosgate amp in my 1979 Cadillac Seville. Boy was that puppy loud and clean sounding for the day! I would do the same setup for the later-acquired 1985 Sedan DeVille. That's where the high end audio path ended for me, all those years ago. Life's circumstances changed and that's the way the cookie crumbled.
Now I'm back to see what's up, learn the new stuff and see what I can do with my latest Cadillac, which is pretty old but it's the Last Of The Breed, good old Detroit Iron rear wheel drive luxury, which is what I've almost always owned over the course of my life.
