18" fi bl fully loaded hot

half way is a good starting point for your amp. i had a sae1200d and found at 1/4 was all i needed to power my ssd. i went to half and it f-ed my sub up. the cone was geting hot. i kinda wanted a new sub and said f-it. not smart for me but i has monies.

yea i mean it sounds good and all i think once i get the van instead of a malibu itll sound better and i can get a better box for it right knowi ts sitting in the back seat with port firring to the ground lol

ill sell u my van, its badass....

and the notes u were playing are probly below ur tuning so the sub will heat up......thats the only time mine get a lil hot......but i play like 22-27hz notes alot

so why do you say i dont know how to use it
because you have no idea how to set gains. you jacked the gain all the way up. you can still get the power you need from your amp by properly setting the gain. you could set it a quarter ways and work the hell out of that sub if you do it properly

really i did not know that i just figured more gain more power im trying to learn all these things im new to the game man

Are my woofers telling me something is wrong then?

With properly set gains via DMM on a Cactus 5kW + two 18'' BTLs the dustcaps can get pretty darn warm after a couple songs of hard bassing. Are my gains actually not properly set then? I just figured after running quite a bit of power through essentially "heat sinks," they would naturally get pretty warm.

Sorry to thread jack, but I figure it fits right into the thread.

we understand, now you know. good thing you asked and didnt keep doing it. i had that problem when i first started with big subs. i thought more gain more power until i smelled the wonderful smell of burnt coils //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif ha. but nah dude, now you know. good luck from now on.

The sub really has nothing similar to "heatsinks" in it. Your dustcap is not directly connected to your voice coil. It has a former, a glue joint, the cone, and another glue joint to go through like that. It actually is getting that hot from air transfer. This means that the coil is REALLY hot, but a lot of heat is being removed from it and transferred to the air thus heating up your dust cap. Failure is coming, but for now the air is being used how the sub was designed to use it.

so later on once i get a new battery i was thinkin a deka g31 IIRC or a c & d Tech batt. then do you think i should run down to 1/5 ohm if im careful with gains and all that nonsense

ok thanks for the help i was planning on getting a new box to i listen to mostly rap i was thinkin either bandpass or just a big box ported to like 32 hz
