18" audioque hdc3

is 1200 watts underpowering it? i know it says 1000 rms but i have heard of people putting like 3-4k watts rms on them. so will it still bump with 1200 watts? im either gonna get the audioque aq12000d or the hifonics 1208d.

It really is underpowering it. I have an older hd3 and although it gets pretty loud off of 1000wrms it just begs for more power. With an 18 im sure it will be more of the same. You deff wanna run more power.

yes it will bump of 1200w, for the price of a aq1200 you could get a bxi1608 tho if you looking at hifonics, not to say the aq isnt a great amp but as far as pure wattage is concerned. yes it will take more power also depends on coils though, for instance the copper coil will probably be getting alot closer to properly powered at 1600w than the aluminum which will like 2k+

not to mention you have to remember the 10" thru the 18" are using the same motor, obviously the 18" is going to have more moving mass and greater efficiency thus itll be louder and happier at 1200w than someone with a 12"

Ran an aq2200 on the hdc318 and it got down but probably could hvae used a little bit more power.

1200w will be a start and you can always upgrade later though.

aq1200d is a good start. i had mine on a aq hdc12 and then on a hdc15, got a aq2200d on the hdc15 now and its only 1.5db louder (still running the 4awg i have for the 1200, adding 1/0 and second batt this week), but it sounds decently louder than the 1200d did

if you are really getting you 1200RMS thats actually plenty enough to get it loud and plenty enough to breakt the spide packs after about 2 weeks... we have broken may of these subs due to cheap construction of the spider packs.. the coils are good but the third joing where the spiders meet the cone always breaks... i broke one in 3 days with a sundown 1500... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif but are loud subs..

wtf you talkin about...I'm throwiin my crossfire vr4000 to each 15....turn it dowm when it smells than ***, just like any other sub. I blew my hdc3's while prolly sending 3500 each for about 3 hours total after bad clippin and they finally blew,

...imo it was not the coil affecting it being blown, the coil unwound completey yet the spiders still held up. they will take a beeting just keep yur nose open.

Why does DJ rate them at 1000w then if its underpowering by THAT much. Shouldnt he rate at like 1500-2000 watts.

if the spiders break ur not going to smell anything... lol... touchy touchy.. geeze ... we have actually had like 3 cones of these and they come apart.. i mean thye use liek 8 little thing spiders.. im not stupid... nightshades are much more durable woofer in all aspects...

another reason for RMS being 1000 is because that limits how much he has to warranty... that way he can take more consideration.. if he rates them at 2000 and someone is clippin the crap outta a 2000 watt amp it will most likely tear it up quicker than a 1000 watt amp being clipped ..

He does this so that he doesn't have to worry about people blowing his subs. People can send it a clipped 1000 watts and not blow it. It is more idiot proof
