And a way to charge them. That means either a seperate alt with a higher set voltage regulator or a 16V DC-DC power converter capable of providing the ammount of current needed.

hmm. im not sure how you would do it for daily use.. if you are using an additional alt would it still be grounded through the case to the engine or would you have to isolate it somehow?

You wouldn't have to isolate it. You can have multiple voltages using the same ground and multiple circuits sharing one leg of the circuit path.

well the amp has to be able to take 16v... most big ones will, but not all, so it would be wise to verify for your specific amp first

You can run 15V without much problem, but at that time your running just of the ALT. Adjustable voltage regulators are available, BUT if you do not totally understand a charging system I would advise against it. More harm could come if you do not monitor it closely. Some circuits in you car may not tolerate over exposure to higher voltage (thus Taxi's remark to isolate) If you do this only at shows, 15.2 should be safe and then turn it back into the 14's afterward.

Amps that are regulated may not really benefit from much over 14.4. The input caps on some amps would be your limiting factor, those should be 18V. You would need a battery bank capable of putting out 16 volts. You would also need amps that will work up to 18v. You'll also need an alternator that will charge this bank of 8v batteries.

im not running my whole car at 16v lol...im keeping the stock alt and my redtop batt for my starter batt, and the system will be ran off 16v batts and a 16v alt.
