For it to be a viable source of testing you want to have results that are both Accurate and Precise. Audiocontroll is neither. Term Lab is more Accurate and MUCH more precise. With AC, especially a worn one, one day you could do a 150 and the next only do a 145.... Both times youy did a 143 on the TL. So who knows if painting resin in the box actually helped if all you have is the AC to test with. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Well for comps yes accurate and precise are a must but for testing your system out...consistency is the key...
It really doesn't matter if it reads 5 db higher then the TL *as long as it is CONSISTENT*.
For example:
Test 1) You burp 140 @42 (repeat 3 times and see if its the same score)
Test 2) You adjust the volume up 1 or 2 clicks (burp 3 times again to see if the same/similar score registers)
...and so on...
Once you have established whether or not the mic is consistent then you can assume it is reliable or not...
Since JNTAR has a TL we also have the added bonus of having a reference mic to compare this mic to...
Back to Test1...if this mic puts up a conistent 140 @42 hz and the TL does a consistent 135 @ 42 hz...then you can safely assume that this mic is 5 db higher then the TL at the 140db and 42hz mark...
I assume this is the type of testing JN is planning...anything remotely close to this is still *VERY* much appreciated!!! Especially since he's doing this on his own merits!!
Anyways if it works out good...I have an EPIC-150 I can compare it to....
