$150 for Grounding

I'm on one of the G35 forums and was looking for possible mods and noticed one being a grounding kit. Its amazing how much these sell for, approx $130 for 8 awg and you must do it yourself. I found someone locally who uses the wire he gets and installs it for $150, still a bit much, but it involves 10 or 11 grounding points.

I know the concept is the EXACT same thing as the Big 3, but there are more points, such as the ECU and the transmission, which helps with the auto trannies like I have when using Manumatic mode.

I just can't justify paying someone $150 for wire that I don't even know what brand it is and it's strand count and unfortunately they won't let me use my wire nor, my tinned copper lugs. Wish the guy would just let me use my Kicker 4 awg and charge me for labor, which I don't mind paying $50 or even $60 for (only takes about 1 hour to do so that's a good labor rate right there).

It's funny though, some people seem to think it adds horsepower and Stillen claims that you will lose horsepower and torque if you don't use theirs. I didn't know adding wires would do that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Seriously, it's outrageous. If I can find the grounding points that is being kept secret I'll do it myself. It's not that hard to loosen a bolt, add a wire and tighten it back up.

Yeah I'm okay, some idiot just cut me off, I didnt leave enough distance, they switched lanes and my wheels locked up as I rear ended a box truck. Car would have been okay if the firewall didn't get pushed in. Airbags didn't deploy either...ghey Honda.

 
Sounds like a bit of a noob 'scam' to me. Fix any obvious grounds that are too small and that's it. Do you think you're going to find the secret to 1000hp on a G35 by grounding wires?

There's a couple guys who have done their own grounding kits, because like me they realize what a crock of shit the prices are. It's basically a 10 wire setup. I know how to do 3 of the wires, but I'm clueless about the other 7. Hopefully one of the guys on the forum hooks it up with instructions or install points and I'll be set.

as for the grounding points i think i would pay that much since they are grouning way more points that normally done as with the big 3. plus for on it's pertty hard to get into some areas and can be a little time consuming. as for thread count in the wire, imo used as a ground i'm sure there isn't much of a real difference if they use some 1/0ga that has 500strands less than your name brand 1/0ga.

I understand it's difficult to get to certain places and labor is a little intensive, and I don't mind paying for someone to do the install for me. $150 is a lot for labor, considering it cost that much to take off my suspension and put a new one on in my last vehicle, which I think is even more labor intensive. I also am a little anal about certain things, I'd like all the additional wires I install in the vehicle to be of the same brand, sounds stupid, but that's how I would like it.

Thanks for the link, better than the one I had found since it wasn't in PDF format, but this one includes 5 wires, looking primarily for the with 10.

 
what exactly are you gaining by changing the grounds? Don't you think the OEM manufacturer has spent a little R&D time on the electrical system, including the grounds? Would be a LOT of recall/warranty work otherwise. Save your $$$ for something useful...

 
ricer-nomics my friend. yes, it is so. i have a kit myself for sale, it wires up your rear brake lights to the inlet of your gas tank for $25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a deal!!!!!!!!!!! operators are standing by. themselves.
