15" XXX or ???

I agree with you, but his original post did not really specify much more than a 15 or 4 10's. My thought was that he was looking for output, not a freq. range to match. From what I have gathered, I he was looking for out of the ordinary. In that case, go with 3 15's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/drool.gif.b5e863e893038027711d4402f340dad0.gif
If output was the goal, and no budget is specified, I'd wait for the pending forum boner.

Now if quality sound is what you are looking for....actually, i'm not going to guess...what EXACLTY are you looking for (to the OP)? Output, SQ, SQL, SPL?
I don't have the space for 3 15"s, other wise I would lol. SQL is my goal, but I would like some decent output too. I was thinking of some W10GTi's, but they are a little expensive

Well what about 3 12's? still less area than 4 10's.
Unless you can find a really good deal on the XXX, I would say there are plenty of other subs out there.
If 3 12"s is less surface area then 4 10"s, why did you recommend it lolol? And what other subs would you suggest?

BTW, the lack of output above 60hz is far from unique to the XXX. Alot of the long throw excursion 'super subs' appear to have this same response 'issue'. I dont mind it, at all. I dont expect my subwoofer to play midbass.

Basically, if you dont have dedicated midbass drivers these days, you shouldn't be/dont need to be looking at the biggest baddest subwoofer drivers out there. They'd drown out your midrange/midbass speakers anyway, even if they ran up to 120hz. *shrug*

Wellll I'm running some 8" Midbasses, so I'm not too worried. And if you guys were to get 10"s, what 10"s would you get?

It's a very common draw back on most all XBL drivers. To me 80hz is still in the subbass region, but I guess thats personal preference.

Exactly why I'm downsizing to something like 2 8s or 2 10s, I don't need a lot of output, figure that someone that wants a low end monster of a subwoofer can get better use of my XXX 15 than I will, thus why it's for sale.

Ive heard that other BL optimized drivers besides xbl^2 subs have the same issue. Im told the W7 has a similar reponse, but abit higher roll off. Ive not played with one myself to verify that though. Again, with any of these drivers, I wouldn't recommend them unless you have serious midbass to compliment them.
I have four idq8's to put in my doors for midbass, and two 05 xxx15's, we'll see how it blends. lol In terms of output, the four 8's will be my weakest link prolly. I'll have to atenuate everything else down to them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I believe either one of those setups, in the right enclosure/install, could easily overpower most front stages these days. Four tens, generally speaking, has slightly less cone area than three 12's or two 15's. I hope that answers your question. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It does, thanks for your help. Now I have to decide on what 10"s to go with //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
