15"s compared to 10"s in speed bass. is the myth true?

i guess not. Sonicelectronix said something along the same lines. they said that bigger motors have a harder time slowing down the cone. i just want to know if its worth getting a SA 15" over a SA 10" because i listen to quite a bit of alternative rock and metal.

Transient response is not really about the size of the motor, it has more to do with the inductance of the voice coil itself from what I have understood. The box also plays a huge role.

Audioholic has explained it really well in older threads that are related to this topic.

Unless your friends are professionals in the car audio field, ignore anything they say.

The "myth" has alot of truth to it. Subs have different cone mass, FS, motor strength, etc. Depending on the sub, you can tune it however you want, and it still wont play how you want it. Now, say youre using high quality equipment, yea you can pretty much make the sub sound however you want, but not all subs will hit the low lows or be very responsive, no matter what you do.

Now you're talking about different subs, we're talking about the same sub just different sizes. Fs doesn't play a big role unless you are doing infinite baffle, as the sub is tested free air. When you put it in an enclosure the environment and how the sub responds changes. I'm using a sub meant for SPL with an Fs of 42, in a box tuned to 31hz in about a full cube above the suggested size, and it's not sloppy nor does it have a hard time hitting the lows.
