15" or 18" XXX, benefits/drawbacks to each

I was all set on getting a 18" XXX straight from RE for $465. Today, I found a guy locally who has 15"s new in box, for $320. Seeing as how my budget is about $500 altogether, I could go with either the one xxx 18" OR the 15" and the RE comps.

Amp used on either sub will be an ED 9.1. The eventual plan is to go with a pair of whatever subs I get, and Im stepping up from a single RE HC 12". Basically, I guess it comes down to one question:

How much output would I lose by going with the 15" rather than the 18"?

Wait, one more question: Would YOU go with the 15"s and RE comps, or the 18"?

depends on what you want out of your system. The 15" and comps would be a better balance of midbass and bass, but if you just want all out bass go with the 18"

Anyone else? Im thinking output shouldnt be too much off, between the 15" and 18", but a guy at another forum told me that TWO 15"s would only have the output of a single 18". How is that possible, since the 15"s would get a total of 3000 watts, compared to 1500 to the 18"?

He was full of crap or you misunderstood him.

Being that the 18" XXX is not available and will not be for a while. I would jump on that XXX for that cheap.

My only problem with it is the lack of warranty.

It was the first one. But yeah, Im gonna go with the 15". If its not enough, and I dont think that adding a second one will make it enough, then Ill just wait for the new sub to come out. In any event, I would think a single XXX 15" would be a MAJOR upgrade from a HC 12"?

Hmm, not too enthusiastic. If I wont get a great increase, I wont even bother. I dont see much point in revamping the setup, only to come away from it like, "Oh, its a little louder."

Where are you in ohio? Where are you getting this 15 from? I have an 18 i MIGHT be willing to part with. What vehicle, how much room you can spare. LMK what's goin on...
