15" Atlas

I just ordered a 15" AA Atlas from a fellow forum member. From the reading I have been doing, it has an unusual voice coil configuration. You can wire it differently to achieve different qts values, if I remember correctly. After doing a good amount of searching I was unable to find a way telling me how to wire it exactly. So, how DO I go about wiring this sucker? I have not the least bit of an idea.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Anyways, I just sent the money for the Atlas this morning, and I also bought my wiring and everything from Knukonceptz this morning. I should be getting everything fairly soon.

Also, how big of a sealed box should I build for this sub? I'm thinking around 2.5ft^3. Does that sound like a good number? It will be getting powered by the rear channel of my PG x200.4, so around 400wrms is how much it will be getting.

I can't wait!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif I'll post some pics when I get the stuff in the mail.

ok the extra vc is only for adjusting the qts, do not run power to the gold terminals or you will fry the sub, just hooked it up normally with the silver vc's. i have mine in 2.3cf sealed and they are nice imo the best sq i've ever heared. how much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking.

it can be ran as a 6ohm woofer.

but you said dont power it.

To the OP, leaving the golden terminals alone is most often optimal for car audio and even home audio. the ohter options (jumping the terminals with either a resistor or a short wire) is there for installs such as IB application IIRC.

The SQ of the Atlas subs is much better when you use a jumper wire or a resistor on the gold terminals. You'll get better output if you leave the gold terminals unconnected but you'll most-definitely experience a noticeable reduction in SQ. It's your call.

I ran an Atlas 12 for a year(in a sealed 1.2 cube enclosure) and I found using the resistor method to be the best bet for my needs. The SQ was excellent with the jumper wire method but I was looking for more output. The SQ was kinda sloppy and boomy when the terminals were left unconnected so I eventually found using the resistor to be the best of both worlds.
