1408 (movie)

List me some ones with good acting. I may need to see these.
Lots of horror films have quality acting. Films like The Shining, The Thing, Alien and the Exorcist immediately come to mind as classics, and all contain at least one actor pulling off a VERY strong performance. Then there are films like Antichrist, Silence Of The Lambs, Session 9 and Se7en, which may or may not be classified as horror depending on who you ask (I consider them horror films). There have been lots of quality foreign horror films that're well made and well acted as well. The short list would include [REC] and it's sequel (which are both amazing), The Orphanage and I Saw The Devil. The House Of The Devil is another solidly acted out horror film, and most people haven't even heard of that one. Quality horror films still exist. You just have to seek them out.

It took me about 30 seconds to think of the films I've mentioned so far.

More often than not, horror films can't be critiqued in the same way as films from other genres....and that's something lots of people can't or won't understand. A solid horror film doesn't have to rely nearly as much on the acting chops of it's cast to be effective. Pacing, editing, cinematography, special effects and "atmosphere" can play bigger roles in making a horror film great than it's actors. Horror films are, in the majority of cases, made on shoestring budgets & employ entire casts of complete unknowns. Evil Dead and Night Of The Living Dead are classics, and while those films were being made, Sam Raimi and George Romero were nobodies (outside of Romero being known for commercials and sports related material in Pittsburgh).

Seen most of those The Shining is solid but, Honestly the other 3 are just not "that" great. I am a huge alien buff but, found the movie to drag on along with the Exorcist. Don't get me wrong the thing is classic and that is where it stays. Those 4 are solid but, lack each in their own way although I love each of them. Silence of the Lambs is one of the all time greats imo of the "horror" cinema. The acting and depth of character was beautiful. Those other 3 I also enjoyed but where no where near SOTL. I love horror movies with nobodies and they usually tend to be talented nobodies. I find physiological thrillers to be the best scripted and to have the best acting in them over the rest of the horror scene. Don't get me wrong the first halloween will always be the shit but how many of the bitches can they drag on? The newest "horror" film with amazing acting I have seen was definitely The Black Swan. LMK some more less general movies with solid acting.

Stopped reading after you said The Exorcist, Alien and The Thing are not that great. You're not a horror movie fan. Good day to you....

I mean I have a Poster for the movie Alien over my bed... I just find The Exorcist and Alien to drag on way too much. The Thing is a "great" Classic but, doesn't really interest me other than when in the mood for classics. I own every Alien movie ever made and own The Exorcist. I collect Alien action figures and have a bust of freddy in my room. I run my own yard haunt every year. I do not respect you calling me a non HORROR movie fan. I just like psycho thrillers more than a classic.

Check out The Experiment and Control. I just watched those on netflix and I thought they were pretty ok. Vanilla Sky was alright too
