12w7 vs 12 l7

I have a Mitsubishi lancer with a dynomatted trunk. i had 2 kicker l7's with a audiobahn 1500hct 2000watts at 1 ohm. but the voice coil blew on both cause i had them in a small sealed enclosure to match their specifications. but then some a local kicker dealer told me they told the public to small an enclousre and this happens all the time.

i want very loud bass lemme make that clear right now.....some one suggested JL audio but ive been hearing mixed reviews about them

i was thinkin 13w7, 12w7 or 2 10w7's all would be in ported boxes

goin back to the l7's 2005 model which is supposed to have fixed the voice coil problems

any other suggestions would be welcome

Go and have a listen to some W7s to see what you think first. They are some fantastic subs and will output some very impressive sound quality and pressure level. The only question I have is the driving them with an audiobahn amp? Just doesn't sit right.

well i would go with a JL amp cause of thw wiring on the w7's and sell the audiobahn amp

Too small of an enclosure isn't going to fry the coils. Might want to find out the real cause behind the damage to the subs, otherwise you are going to just do it again and again and again.

i was told by a kicker deal that since the enclosure was too small all the pressure would push on the sub and cause that to happen.

the voice coil is ripped half way around on one and the other the wire for coil 2 coming from the wire input is off and frayed. anyone happen to know what happened or any suggestions if the dealer isnt right?

2 10" w7s would be very very nice no?

going from L7's to W7's is not neccessary. if you had the L7's then you must be looking for some hard hitting subs and not really mind the fact that they dont have the greatest SQ. why not look into some subs that are not $500 for one 10" woofer and $1000 for a 1000 watt amp...personally my friends have w7's and i would rather have my old setup of 2 12" SE's and about 800 watts to both than a 12w7 and a jl 1000/1. not only did i score better on the meter by 2 dB but the SQ still was very impressive. plus you save yourself alot of cash.

i noticed your in CT so if you are close to bridgeport theres a shop that sells RE and it might be worth your time to drive down and check them out. great subs for a really good price.

exactly like what everyone else said, the small enclosure should UP the power handling by a bit (unless youre over the VC's thermal capacity). anyway, yes, go find out what really happened, and go slap your dealer. where are your gains? u using bass boost? tried matching gains with a voltmeter before? what the dealer says isnt always the answer...some really are stupid. with that kinda power, you shouldnt blow subs, esp in a small sealed box. i had a 12L7 (older one) hooked up to 1200rms off a jblbp1200.1 daily forever before. id say check your gains and bassboost. just my .02

Sounds exactly like you over drove them. And I doubt the Audiobahn amp produces a true 2000 watts...

A JL W7 and a Kicker L7 are nothing alike, aside from the fact that they produce bass. They are 2 completely different drivers, designed for two completely different applications. You can compare the L7 (loosely) with the Fosgate T1's. Maybe the T2's.
