+12V straight from batt or Stereo

Not entirely experienced in amps and setting them up, but i needed to ask this before i go ahead. I don't want to bother running a wire straight to the battery to power up an amp and would wish to run it (share it) with the +12V Batt wire that the car stereo is using, Is it safe to do this? will the amp run good off of this? and if i must have it straight to the battery, do i require using a fuse in between the cable, from the amp to the batt.?

run a powerwire from the battery with a fuse like you said.. ..... I think you knew that already

well take into consideration the fact that it is 22 gauge wire (which is most likely what the +12v wire is on your stereo)

even if you could wire it up from your stereo instead of from the battery, that small of wire could only carry

if u have a system running off

it might be slightly bigger than 22 gauge, and if so ur still looking at around

and yes u fuse within about 6 inches from the battery to the fuse holder itself, ie. pretty close to the battery

ok, i'll hook it up straight to the battery. Do all amplifiers use the same type of fuse (amperage) wise? or do they vary by power output? This is sort of a small amp i'm gonna hook up 450Wpeak, 150Wrmsx1@4homs. this is intended for 1 single sub.

you want to fuse to the maximum amperage of the wire u are using ie. if using TRUE 4 gauge for power/ground then u want to use about a 140 amp fuse or so. if you are only using a 150w rms amp then u probably are using 8 gauge for your power/ground and therefore i would use around a 60amp fuse, if indeed u are using 8 gauge wire.

also, you might have an onboard fuse on your amp which you dont want to get confused with the fuse u run near ur battery.
