12JLw7

Originally posted by androidsixseven I'm getting a 12w7 in, I was wondering with it being 3 ohms could I still use my Kenwood KAC-X810D mono 1600/1 ohm, 800/2 ohm, 400/4 ohm amp. The ohms do not match up but if I bridge the amp into 2 ohms, could I be safe using it?
If its a mono amp, how you plan on bridging it?

it's a 3ohm sub....and why not? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

if it's made to run at 1ohm mono then i dont see why it wouldnt do 3 ohms mono //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

edit:LOOSE THE CAPS PLEASE

Essentially, the sub will operate, but will not operate to near its full potential. The power you will be getting at 3 ohms will be somewhere around 600 watts according to what you said...From what i have heard the W7s like about 1000 at least to make them happy. I would look into another sub, or another amp. Im no expert on W7's but that is what i have been told, and actually seen in action.........

And..you cant bridge a one channel amp dude...Those two outputs for the sub aren't channels, they just simplify wiring more than one sub to a mono amp... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

*sigh*

Ok, the whole thing about W7s needing a lot of power is overblown. I'm running a JBL BP300.1 to my 12W7, and it is fine. If you want crazy loud SPL, then it can take a lot more power, but if you just want SQ, you don't need a lot of power at all. The 12W7 can take 2000W without breaking a sweat (though it will void your warranty), and could probably handle double that for a few competition burps.

With 300W, I'm pushing out better than 130db (measured by a somewhat inaccurate Radio Shack meter). If you want SQ, you won't even be approaching that level. If you want SPL, give it 10x the power and your SPL numbers will shoot through the roof.

keywords: Radio Shack meter.
Somewhat inaccurate is an understatement.
