i was wondering if a jl 500/1 would run a 12 w7 well enough til i can upgrade. or should i not even waist my time hooking it up

get a different amp other than jl. itll either be cheaper, or the same price and more power = better.

w7's are great drivers.

I had a 12w7 hooked up to a 500/1 and it still got pretty loud.

I have one hooked to a Xenon 600.1... gets pretty loud and sounds GREAT!

used a Xenon 1200.1 for a while... not a HUGE difference.. but noticeable..

I had my w7 on a kicker ZX1500.1 and it rocked. your 500/1 will work, but they like more power. and i would save up for the ZX1500.1 over the ZX1000.1

You can run a 12W7 off a 500/1, in fact on JL Audio's website they recommend either a 500/1 or 1000/1.

well they are dual 1.5 so good luck trying to get a 2 ohm load outta it.

yeah, 2 ohms ain't gonna happen with that sub. So long as you got enough power at 3 Ohms, it'll be happy no matter the amp. I temporarily had one running off of a Memphis 16-mc1500d and what I assume was around 1200 watts and it sounded awesome.

so wut kind of amp specs should i be looking for when it comes to the 12w7

example.... 1000@3ohms....

i mean i cant find any amps that run at 3 ohms so wut should i look for

just look for ratings @ 4 and 2 ohms, and kinda guesstimate what it would put out at 3. Unless you just spring for an amp with a regulated power supply i.e. JL amps, PG Xenon's, etc.
