better comparison would be
12" Si BM ($280 + s/h) vs Fi Q15 ($279 shipped)
...Fi Q15 still comes out cheaper cuz shipping is included on Fi's site if I recall
Fi Q15 = sd of 810
Si BM = sd of 480
Fi Q15 = 69% more potential displacement area
Fi Q15 = 27mm of linear xmax
Si BM = 16mm of linear xmax
Fi Q15 = 69% more linear displacement
Theyre both SQ drivers, so I highly doubt the BM has a huge xmag or anything that would extend its SPL capabilities
bottom line...the Fi Q15 has about 138% more displacement capabilities / ON PAPER it has a potential 8.3dB over the BM
The Fi has the potentiality to get almost TWICE as loud (10dB=doubling of sound pressure to human ears)
...$30 more will get you a Q18 with an sd of 1210cm^2 (152% surface area displacement + 69% linear throw...potentiality of 13.26dB)
also remember this is all box dependent, to get the subwoofer to full linear excursion you must compress the air within the box (one of the many reasons why speakers are so inefficient at transfering electrical energy to acoustical energy)...so remember this is just a POTENTIALITY
