**I searched before posting this**

I have a 12" RL-P in a 2^3ft ported box @ 30hz, powered by a PG X600.1. I'll be honest, i'm completely satisfied with the output, it is loud as shit for what I need and I dont have the rear deck ported at all. Anyways, I am very unsatisfied with the double bass response. I listen to everything, but I am an avid rock/metal listener. I had planned on keeping the RL-P but I really just want something else with better "hit". I realize sealed would be better for this but I have heard other subs perform better in that category than the RL-P, namingly the FI SSD 12. Would this be a good choice if thats what I wanted, or what else should I get instead (around the same price range)?

Thanks.

try it in a small sealed box before you sell it, i have 2 of them sealed , they never miss a beat, double bass drums simply rage!

port = sloppy

thats what im saying, people say theres a lot of sq in the 28-30hz range, but its still not going to match up to the sq of sealed.

idk of many other subs that would be much better then the rl-p for what you are looking for. try porting it using areos and tune low, hell even 26-28 hz. and use areos so you don't have to keep building boxes.

plug up the port and go from there. Also if your rear deck is not ported and does not have sound deadner you are going to get all sorts of odd sounds and cancellation, especially with those really quick double kick drum sounds. The rear deck will start vibrating and cancelling out sound waves and making the sounds all one big rumble. Also set the box in your back seat and see how it sounds just to make sure it is the box.

My 2 15" RL-P's in ported boxes seem to have NO trouble keeping up with double kicks. I agree that vibrations/cancellation can really distort the sound, so check there for sure.

Was cranking Motley Crew: Kickstart My Heart last night and it sounded like gun shots going off. VERY loud, distinct, clear gun shots........meh likes.

x2 on building a new box before buying a new sub, unless you just really want to try something new.
