12" L7 Amp Question

I have a 12" L7 that I got 5 or 6 years ago (it is the first model that was square) and am looking for a new amp as my old one is having issues. The old amp was a generic mono amp that supposedly put out 450x1 RMS at 2 ohms. I was hoping to feed a bit more power to the sub and have been looking at the Kicker ZX750.1 that puts out 750x1 RMS at 2 ohms. I know Kicker amps are usually underrated and the L7 is rated at 750 RMS.

Is this amp too much for my sub? or should I be okay as long as I don't crank the gain up to the maximum? I looked over the manuals from my model as well as the current model and it lists the new model as 600 RMS when in a large ported enclosure, which is what mine is in - however the manual for mine says 750 for all enclosure types. Just thought I would throw that in there too if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The sub is a Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coil, so a mono amp runs just right at 2 ohms. I don't really want or need to try to push it to the max, I just wanted a good amp and the 750.1 seemed like a decent step up from the 500.1. If the sub will handle whatever the 750.1 can put out at 2 ohms then I will order it up and hopefully be able to throw it in over the weekend.
