12" Fi Q vs Fi SSD vs...?

I have all the parts I need for my system but I haven't decided on a sub yet.

Here is what I have now:

Kicker ZX750.1 (rated at 750W RMS at 2ohms... but will probably do more)

Kicker ZX200.2

Eclipse SC6500 components in front doors (will be getting 70x2 from the amp)

Running 4awg wire from battery

Sealed Q-Logic box, 1.25cu

Sub will be in the trunk of my '06 Sonata

And I'm in the process of doing the Big 3 with 1/0 gauge Knu KLM

I want a 12" that is well built, has excellent sound quality and can put out a really solid punch from a bass drum. I've been leaning toward the Fi SSD with copper coils because of the price and the power handling being a bit more realistic for my "needs" and my amp. I listen to metal, not rap, and I like to thump but I'm more likely to turn the bass down a notch to match the music than to turn it up to set off car alarms.

Is the Q really that much better than the SSD as far as sound quality and clarity? Also, are there any subs other than the SSD in the sub $200 price range (new) that are worth taking a serious look at? If I'm going over $200 I'll probably just get a Fi Q... or maybe an SSA Icon. But I'd rather stay under $200. I'm running pretty close to my budget already.

I have the SSD10 with copper coil in a sealed box, 600rms on it. I listen to mostly rock and some metal. I can't speak for the Q but the SSD is a great sub for the price compared to what i've heard over the years. As far as another sub under $200 worth looking at might be the Phoenix Gold RSDC. I haven't heard one myself but read good things for the price of it.

i personally like the Q over the SSD. it has more punch to me. the SSd does sound good though. SSA icons are nice subs as well. i would say overall get the Q and eventually beef up the power. they can take power. I had 1500 on a 18 Q with BP option.

I probably won't be buying a new amp for a long time. My 300W Infinity setup has been pretty good for me, and nearly tripling the power should be plenty.

I'm just not sure if the Q's advantages over the SSD would really show if it was "only" being fed 750-800W. And if they aren't, I could save myself some cash... but still... its such a tough choice.

I have never heard a Q in person so i wouldnt know about those

But for SSD's they can get pretty loud and they sound pretty good doing it. Not a single complaint from me when it comes to SSD's

Well I'm just about ready to drop the hammer on the SSD.

Any last minute suggestions?

BTW, my "Big 3" upgrade is going well so far. I'm pretty new to this kind of work on my car and electrical system, so I'm taking my time... but so far my cables look great. I added a ground for my battery and a ground from my engine block. After I figured out how to successfully cut, strip and crimp 1/0 gauge wire (I almost crapped when I saw how big it was) it was pretty easy. It even looks nice because I found some 1/0 gauge heat shrink at a hardware store.

My only concern is keeping the connection on the alternator cable covered though. The boot that is on there now doesn't look like it'll fit 1/0 gauge. I know I definitely shouldn't leave it exposed, but I don't know how to cover it.

Your 750.1 might be able to do around 900 watts. Do you have the birth sheet?
It won't be delivered until the 15th.

I've seen most of them in the upper 800 range though. I really doubt I'll be pushing it to its full potential anyway, which is why I'm leaning toward the SSD. I like it loud, but not to the point of making me deaf or overpowering the music.

I actually have the same amp and am going to go with a 15" fi.q

Mine is rated at 930 RMS on the birth sheet and I have seen a lot of others that do 900+

I cant wait to get my amp though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif but yeah if you dont plan on giving it full power I guess an SSD would be better for you. How much cheaper are they?

About $65.

Which really isn't that much... but I really didn't plan on spending this much on my sound system right now, it just sorta happened.

If I found $50 laying on the ground right now I'd buy the Q... but I'm trying to keep my spending vs income under control, and so far it hasn't worked out too well. lol

EDIT: I'm up to around $550 for the 2 amps, the wire for the big 3, some installation tools and the components. Not too bad I guess...

Replaced my 8 gauge wiring with 4.

Now have two amps running (counting my 750.1)

Traded my psp which i coulda sold for like 160 or 70 for my Kicker 750.1
