sorry to ask again but, if an amp is rated at say 800watts and has 2 channels. does that mean it has 400 watts per channel?

in most cases yes, but it depends on the brand and model, some do less than rated, some can do way more but for your 2 subs i would look for something around 600-800 watts rms x1 @ 2 ohm, again depending on the brand. that kicker 750.1 would be great for what you need.

edit: that mtx amp looks perty good as well

look for a mono block amp. it will split the power it puts out to the subs you do not need a mono to run a pair of subs.
