10" or 12"??

12"s will normally appear louder off of the same power. However, you will be running the 10"s ported, so that will probably make up any difference in output.

It's a classic battle. Which one you go with usually comes down to what your application is. 10s and 12s can nearly do the same exact thing, other than it usually being that 12's can get lower, louder, and 10's can be cleaner, punchier.

It all comes down to engineering.

If those two options are the only ones you wish to use, it really doesn't matter which you pick. The 10"s being ported wont save space, and the 12"s might have equal SQ. Output would be very similar. It's a trade off.

If your concern is SQ, do the 10"s sealed.

If it's output, do the 12"s ported (if you have the room)

If you want to save some space, get some SQ and SPL as well, go with the 10"s ported.

i promise, no matter what mrdave has to say, that the 12s will have just as good if not better SQ sealed than those 10s ported. Output, honestly will be very similar. If they cost the same i would go with the 12s. Maybe you get both, try 1 12" ported and maybe that is all you need. Sell the other one and make back some money. If you still want it louder add the second sealed....

im leaning more towards the spl side of things. at the moment i have a dd 9515 and i love it but im getting a new truck and cant fit a 15 anymore so i wqant to try out the xxx's so its either going to be the 10's ported or 12's sealed.

i figured the 10's ported would have a little more spl and the 12's sealed would have a little more sq. the box sizes are about the same for either setup. like i said i want it to sound good but overall i will probly go with the setup that has more overall output.

Why would the 12"s have 'better' SQ than the 10"s? In most cases, 10"s will typically have a 'cleaner' sound due to the smaller cone. Not all cases, but it is usually a factor in less expensive speakers.

If you want SPL, just go with the 12"s ported, if you have the room. Otherwise, 10"s ported will due the trick.
