1 18" or 2 12"

I've ran both a 18" BTL and (2) type R's, and have tested both on a Planet audio 2250D ...

The R's in 5 cubes @ 34hz had good sq and got really loud. Be carefiull though because that 2250 will heat thise coicecoils up tio the point that they will get stinky.

The 18 was in 7cuft @ 32hz and it didn't have the sq that the R's did, but it was way way way louder to the point that it would hurt. It also flex'd the vehicle alot more.

I'd say go with the 18" BL if you can. It should perform pretty close to the BTL that I have. You will never have to worry about voicecoil either if you get it.
How was that Planet Audio amp? Is it good bad indifferent? And do you think 2 15s would beat out that 18? Oh and, nice shiny box.

The planet audio 2250/2200 is a very reliable amp and when you buy it for $290 shipped from Audio Video Outlets on ebay it's a hellova good deal. As you can see by my videos in my sig it really pushed the 18" BTL well and pushed the R's to the point that they were about to blow. I would pick it up from AVO on ebay. They are a good company. I had a 2250 1st but it blew after I had installed for a few weeks. I called them up and they sent me out a vx2200d for free. Very good service.

In regards to your question I would think that you can get 2 15 BTLs louder then 1 18 BTL.

Never tried it though.

isn't how it sounds more important than how loud it is? don't be the idiot banging distortion and not music. let the neighborhood hear the lyrics not the rattles.

besides, a pair of 12" done right will hit harder and faster and if the enclosure is done right, they should play as low as an 18". Speed and accuracy are usually inversely proportional to changes in size. course, if you spend enough that changes.

SHiZNiLTi can build some bad *** boxes and knows what he's talkin' about. those Type-R 12's seem a bit weak for a true comparison though. There are plenty of better 12's out there.

Don't have enough for the BTL, but just got some extra cash and was thinking two 15" SSDs, or Type Rs. Since you guys seem to like the cone area, the SSDs have a Sd of 800cm^2 (somewhere around there) and two would give a total of 1600 meaning more cone area than the one 18"... but specs on paper and actual experience sometimes (most the time) differs. My spending limit as of now is $400 (give or take acouple bucks), thanks for the input so far, keep the comments coming.P.S. Are the SSD subs SQL or what, haven't heard much about them?
i actually meant the bl

but a pair of type-r 15's or a used loaded btl 18 would both be good options(both above the bl 18 imo)

What other 12 or 15s would beat out the Hype Rs?

Umm...no...every statement he made was correct, go back to elementary school and learn how to calculate areas.
