07+ Nissan Altima Door Speaker Install / Scosche Adapters

Wondering if anyone has installed front door speakers on an 07+ Nissan Altima (non-Bose)? The openings are rectangle, house 6 1/2's, and the speaker has a triangle type mount built into it.

I'm looking to put a pair of 6 1/2" components in. Originally was going fab my own out of MDF but saw an adapter when I ordered my HU and went ahead and ordered it as well. The adapter part was Scosche SASCN656 (pic below). The adapter is originally for Scion xB / Coopers but is also listed as a kit available for the Altima, and is general purpose for 5 1/4's as well as 6 1/2's.

My question is how the heck does this adapter work? It needs to be mounted just as the picture shows (screw holes towards the back) and my 6 1/2s are too big to fit. I thought it would be obvious when it arrived or come w/instructions, but I'm obviously too dense and Scosche too cheap (or they expect the former, man I feel like an idiot). I could dremmel the edges and my speaker would fit, but that'd leave me screwing the speakers into about 1/8" of plastic somehow.

Am I better off tossing these and making my own adapters?

Yes. I had the same problem with my front install in an '03 Altima. I just made my own out of 1/4 plywood and then deadened the bracket. They are coaxials in my wifes car running off the HU, so I put a minimal effort in, but they worked better than the scosche brackets were going to work.

Thanks John, real world experience appreciated - I called Crutchfield before your post as well and they didn't recommend it for the Altima for 6 1/2's and suggested I go with 5 1/4's instead that would fit the adapter. Not an option at this point, and not sure why it's labeled both a 6 1/2 and 5 1/4 adapter. Maybe they mean you can go FROM a 6 1/2 to a 5 1/4 with it lol.

Shouldn't be that hard to fab that piece as you mentioned, and will probably sound better than that plastic adapter anyway.

On another note, I put in my Alpine 9886 tonight and it absolutely SMOKES the stock unit. It's not at all in the same world of sound - much cleaner, crisper, and not near as muddy. And that's just driving the front factory speakers and a some Polk 6x9s in the back off the Alpine for now. I'll hopefully be getting my amp soon (Memphis 75X4) and adding the components I should be good until the sub craving comes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I had been considering keeping the stock HU and am really glad I didn't now!

Thanks man - appreciate it those pics will make it a lot easier for me, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your build! I saw your build initially w/the deadening and forgot to subscribe.

I got all excited for a sec about where you put the xovers as I'm using CDT components as well (CL61s going in my front doors) until I read the advise about water //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
