yes, its wired paralell so the amp was 2 ohms and the sub would be 4ohms with that wiring

thats why i didnt stop the sub as soon as i smelled it. i thought to myslef that the sub has never seen any real power before so maybe dust or the usual break in smell. but my buddy is a cook he touches hot stuff all day long and this was hot to the touch. i wish i had my thermal temp gun on me...

he never changed the gain. its still set below halfway on his amp. albiet his headunit is new, but hes been screwing around with subs since the early 90's so i figured he had it set properly. apparently not. his kicker 12 never gets warm tho and that thing pounds.

just took it apart. voice coils still look shiny and new, pressed down the sub got a slight scratch at the bottom. i mean its been clipped before because that lanzar was underpowering it much more that this alpine was. if you go back to the conversation we had quack im sure youll remember...

I will check of course tommorrow during the day. but heres my thing, i ran a lanzer on that sub that was supposedly rated at 900rms, later found that it wasnt even close to that. 341 i believe the math came out to. so technically its been clipped before. it never warmed up the sub at all

when i was testing i had the system about 2 notches down from max just nothing coming out of the amp at all. i think i read something in that thread saying that the rca inputs are iffy on them. Given the symptoms i want to point my finger at them. I build computers and understand electronics...

this amp seems to be doa =(. did a bunch of tests with my volt meter. amp has power, fuses gave power but nothing coming out of the amp. guess ill have to rma it and wait for another to come in.

well amp came in today.
