Well...ShaunMac wins the golden apple award That fixed it. Just changed the jumper setting in the EQL and it is stone quiet now. I knew I was too anal about my wiring to have a problem, so I was getting frustrated. Guess I should have looked at the EQL .PDF I had as it tell you to try that...

It's just an annoying hiss that does not vary in pitch like typical alt whine. Happens whether the truck is on or not. I'll check into the ground jumpers. I'm assuming they are inside the unit?

It's everywhere...however, I think I have it isolated. I have 2 amps: JBL 1200.1 and a 180.2 plus two Audio Control units - an EQL and a 6XS. I've narrowed it down to the EQL. It is quiet witht he EQL bypassed and the 6XS connected, and it's quiet running directly from the HU to the Amps...

The only thing that I can tell, is that it is not alt related. It happens with the truck turned off, and the key in the acc position. It does NOT worsen with turning the truck on, nor does it vary with RPM. Makes sense?

Ok, I had considered that...however, I installed the HU (CDA 7892) about 4 months ago and have used it with no other aftermarket stuff, just as a stock replacement and it was quiet, with NO noise. Is it still possible that it is now causing the noise? As always, thanks! Mike

Still have a alt type noise in the system that I can't isolate. The difference here is it is present without the truck running as well. With the key in the acc position it's there. Where should I look first? I have moved the ground around but it didn't help. I understand alt whine, but this...

I managed to find a small pass through at the bottom of the black thingy and ever so slightly enlarge it to allow the 16g Stinger wire through. I then slit a hole in the rubber accordian and fed them into it and on into the truck. I will most likely cover the exposed wire with split loom...

Yeah, I think that is best. Upopn further inspection, the hard plastic thing is actually some sort of electrical component. It is hollow inside, but rather the wires feed into it like a plug, so there is no room inside for anything else to go through. Thanks!!

Ok, I see what your talking about, and in the past, I've done it that ways as well. However, in the Explorers, there is a solid plastic cylinder that rotates as the door is opened and closed. It's hard, and not giving so I can't see being able to fish a coat hanger through it with those bends...
