Sorry, not familar with the lingo. Is running active something to do with the triple crossover setup in the Pioneer?

I'm looking to replace an old Alpine 7982 head unit. I keep coming back to the Pioneer DEH-80prs, but I'd like to put more budget into the rear speakers that I'm also replacing and less into the head unit. I'm not running a sub, and wouldn't be splitting the mids/highs/lows like pioneer...
