Question about connecting woofers to an amp

So basically you're telling me that if I have two 4ohm DVC subs, both separately wired to 2ohms like I have now, if I connect them both to the amp that i explained above, which would then make them wired in parallel, they would be running at 2ohms. I posted a few weeks ago and someone told me...

Question about connecting woofers to an amp

Thank you Ecrack. I have another question. The way both subs are wired currently is at 2ohms separately. They are in a box, but the box separates the two sides, and both subs are wired independently. They are 4ohm DVC subs. So, if both subs are wired to 2ohms, and I connect both positives in the...

Question about connecting woofers to an amp

I'm thinking about buying a mono block amp from a friend. This amp, however, only has 2 speaker wire terminals, one positive and one negative. I have two subs in a box, therefore i have 4 wires, 2 positives and 2 negatives. My last mono block actually had 4 terminals, 2 positive and 2 negative...

Two 4 ohm DVC woofers needing to be wired to 2 ohms

Also, I read about folks having 2ohm setups all the time. What are they using then, single voice coil woofers? I was under the impression that DVC is greater than SVC.

Two 4 ohm DVC woofers needing to be wired to 2 ohms

That's the same diagram i was looking at earlier. That's why I was confused, because 2ohm wasn't listed. Ok so my last amp I had blew. It was a 1000watt mono. I honestly cannot remember the brand for the life of me. It was 3 years ago and I had no idea about anything back then. So obviously I...

Two 4 ohm DVC woofers needing to be wired to 2 ohms

You mean there's no possible way I can get a 2ohm load with two 4 ohm DVC? Seriously? So I'm stuck at running them at 4 ohm or 1 ohm?

Two 4 ohm DVC woofers needing to be wired to 2 ohms

I have a fairly basic knowledge of car audio. I'm confused about a setup I'm trying to achieve. Basically about 2 years ago I bought 2 Orion 12" woofers pre-installed in an enclosure. I don't have the model # of the box or the woofers. I'm trying to achieve a 2 ohm wiring design. I removed one...

    mono amp vs. 2-channel

Ok I hate sounding dumb but the only way to learn is to ask questions. What is the difference between say a 2 or 4 channel amp, and a mono amp. I imagine that a mono amp is a 1 channel amp, right? But if that is the case, why do I have a mono amp with 4 speaker connections. They go like this...

    muffled sound coming from subs

It was the amp. Don't know what's wrong with the amp, but it is messed up. I hooked that up to the rear 6x9's which were working on the other amp, and the speakers were putting out this crazy high frequency sound that I can't explain. Guess I gotta buy another one. That sucks ***, but at least...

how do I install subs in a box

I have 2 12" orion subs in an orion box. I'm not sure if they are blown, but if they are and I need to get 2 new subs, I would like to keep the box because it is a beast. What do I have to do to install 2 new subs in a box. I can take the old ones out myself, but is there some sealant or...

    muffled sound coming from subs

Ok so I fixed the ground real good. Sanded it down as much as I could, and put a washer in between the screw and the ring terminal. I'm still getting the muffled wierd sounds from the subs. Everything is connected the way it should as I now know. I'm pretty sure its the amp. But I wanted to know...

    muffled sound coming from subs

Really? Because my HU came with a ground wire that had a metal ring connector on it. I cut that off and spliced it into the black ground wire that went to the factory unit. I might try that too thanks.

    muffled sound coming from subs

Ok thanks a lot. I really appreciate your help. I had them hooked up right if that is the case. I guess my ground is the problem. If that doesn't fix it I will have to get a new amp. Oh by the way, do you know how to tell if a sub is blown. If my subs were blown, would they make any kind of...

    muffled sound coming from subs

OK i get that, but if the speaker connections on the amp look like - - + + would i hook the left sub up to the left - and left + and then the right sub up to the right - and right +? Or would I hook one sub to the left - and right +, and the other to the right - and left +? Kinda silly probably.
