    Blew a 120A fuse

Ok I did a close inspection of the power wire... there are no cuts in the insulation, but these marks are suspicious. I can't tell if they are burn marks or just grease/gunk from random places where it was run.

    Blew a 120A fuse

I used one of the existing grommets through the firewall to run the power wire. I checked the entire power cable and I see no breaks in the insulation. I'm going to check again today though.

    Blew a 120A fuse

So I guess the only explanation would be that the cable shorted somewhere, or the internals of the amp shorted. I don't have a schematic for the amp so I don't know where the stock three 30A fuses are in the current path... but those three 30A fuses were intact.

    Blew a 120A fuse

Setup: 4AWG power wire ran through a Crescendo 1000C4 fused with 120A fuse close to the battery.. connected to a set of Polk DB6501 components and Alpine Type-S 6x9 coax speakers in the back. I got everything wired up and was setting the gains just running off the battery... later in the day...

    Theoretical Setup

Actually, it does make sense. Less wattage = less headroom. Less clean headroom = clipping when the amp is turned up. And even so, the "125w" that the amp puts out is probably an exaggeration anyway. My head unit's amp is rated as "50w" but probably puts out 22w or so.

    Theoretical Setup

Okay, I want to run this setup by you guys to make sure it makes sense before I buy all this stuff. Right now I have a set of Polk DB6501 components (100RMS/300 peak) in the front and a set of Alpine Type-S 6x9's (85RMS/260 peak) in the back. Everything is being run off the head unit right now...

    powered RCA outputs?

Thank you. Thank you. That's the answer I was looking for. All I needed to know. No need to be a complete ******* about it.

    powered RCA outputs?

I would rather not have to splice the wires from the harness into my new speaker wire... I want this: Headunit --> RCA outputs -> new speaker wire -> speakers.. The question is, are those RCA outputs powered by the headunit?

    powered RCA outputs?

Hey guys, I have a small dilemma. I have a Panasonic CQ-C7301U head unit that is from '05.. It has the standard power 10-pin or so connecter that powers the head unit and runs to the stock speaker wiring... I just redid the wiring to my front speakers and was planning on hooking them up directly...

    Questions about 4-channel setup

I'm just entering the world of car audio, so please forgive me if my questions sound really stupid. I've pretty much decided to power all my speakers with an amp instead of just the head unit. I have Alpine Type-S 6x9's in the back and will soon upgrade the 6.5's in the front to either Alpine...

Powering front speakers w/ head unit or amp?

Hey guys. I just got a 2000 Honda Prelude and I'm planning on switching out all the speakers especially since the front-right door 6.5in blew yesterday. I'm looking at Alpine Type-R speakers for the front (2 6.5" + 2 1" tweeters) and the back (2 6"x9"). I have a 50wx4 Panasonic head unit...
