I see the second one has an external volume control and some other stuff the first one is like what I have and the volume is controlled through the p/c-- guess it depends on what you ultimately need... my headphones have a vol control so that would be a waste for me... is it worth the extra...

I tried taking mine apart too... it is proprietary/not surface mounted,,, couldnt replace. USB adaptor costs about $30.00 and has a program that will allow you to better control the sound output and EQ / environament settings. I will try to find the link 4 you.
