What is so wrong with the pioneer shallow mounts? I know they are no sundowns, but they are much more thin (stay true to an actual shallow mount) and reviewers have left great reviews and say they sound great considering their size. Have you personally listened to one in an optimized setup?

Thanks, I will take your word for it and look into the sundowns. I think the shallow mounts could possibly handle being ported because the 8in does even need an enclosure and the twelve works off a small enclosure. If you don't mind looking, this is the one I was thinking about buying...
