Image Dynamics XS 6.5" midranges cone separating from surround after 5 years?

Thanks for the reply. I took a look, and the cones aren't touching the door or anything else; the mounting holes are cut to the specified diameter. I guess I'll just keep an eye on the new ones. Too bad ID went out of business, I've gottten a lot of enjoyment out of their gear over the years...

Image Dynamics XS 6.5" midranges cone separating from surround after 5 years?

Hi, I have a set of Image Dynamics 6.5" component speakers in my Tahoe. Recently I noticed they were distorting a lot and farting out if I turned the volume up too much. I ordered another set of midranges and when I took my door panels off I discovered that there was about a 1/2" gap between...

Right Tweet is 4 times Louder than the Left

Ok guys I finally got a chance to trouble shoot this pretty carefully today. First I restripped the tweeter leads, and re-crimped the connection with the original speaker wire To my amazement, the tweeter then played at full volume after I did this! But 30 seconds later, it reverted to the...

Right Tweet is 4 times Louder than the Left

Nah, it's flush mounted to the door panel and behind a speaker grill that I can't really take off without taking the panel off......but I can take the door panel off and run a new 10 ft speaker wire straight to it and see if that does the trick. If that fixes it I guess I'll need to re-run the...

Right Tweet is 4 times Louder than the Left

The crossover is the Head Unit, the DEH-P880PRS. It's a higher end unit and has a built in 3-way active crossover. The tweeters are crossed over at 3,150 hz (high pass) at 24db/oct. Basically the HU high passes the front RCA's and Bandpasses the Rears, everything goes to the 4 channel amp...

Right Tweet is 4 times Louder than the Left

Thanks for the reply! Wouldn't the fact that the Right Tweet still plays at full volume when connected to the left tweet output on the amp rule out all those problems? It seems to me that the only problem at this point could be the speaker wire? But it's hard to imagine a short in the speaker...

Right Tweet is 4 times Louder than the Left

Hi, I'm having a weird problem with my bi-amped component system. It's a DEH-P880PRS head unit going to a JBL GTO1004 (100 x 4) amp with the front channels powering to Image Dynamics XS28 tweeter and the rears power two XS65 mids. My problem is the left tweeter is about 40 db quieter than the...

    Strange connection problem

Hi, I'm having a weird problem with my bi-amped component system. It's a DEH-P880PRS head unit going to a JBL GTO1004 amp with the front channels powering to Image Dynamics XS28 tweeter and the rears power two XS65 mids. My problem is the left tweeter is about 40 db quieter than the right...

    Multimeter gain setting questions

Hi, I know the accepted way to set gains is by listening for audible distortion, then turning down a hair, but I recently purchased a multimeter in hopes of getting a somewhat more accurate method without spending 500 bucks for an oscilloscope. I'm using JBL GTO14001 (rated 1500x1 @ 2ohms) for...

    Good amp for ID speakers?

JBL GTO1004 , 100 x 4. I use it to power my ID front stage and it works well. Of course you could always go for the new ID amps too! Maybe a Q450.4?

    Tweeter Repair ?

Aww geeze the pics would probably just be embarassing. I chewed up the bottom plastic pretty good trying to seperate the thing and ended up squeezing off most of the postive lead....at this point I'm thinking it's just replacement time if ID will sell me one for less than $100.

    Tweeter Repair ?

Posted there, thanks horesman. I tried prying at it quite a bit with vice grips and some pliers, thing won't budge a hair.

    Tweeter Repair ?

Thanks for the replies guy. That one was an NX30, which looks a little different. Obviously I'd rather try and repair it myself that go weeks without my tweet, but after prying at it a little bit I think there's about zero chance of this thing opening up. I'd probably damage it worse.

    Tweeter Repair ?

I made a boneheaded move today. While taking my door panels off to install some dynamat I inadvertantly snagged my tweeter's speaker wire, and it must've pulled the wire loose inside of the tweeter because it no longer produces any sound. Is there any way to open up a tweeter to repair this, I...
