Question regarding SQ and price: 1 or 2 12's?

Hey guys, Last fall I bought one 12" Infinity Perfect sub (dual 4-ohm voice coil, btw), but didn't get a chance to buy an amp for it yet so I just hooked up an old, low-powered jensen to it for the month or two that I had it in my car before winter. Anyway, I'm going to be running Alpine Type S...

    Head unit power/capabilities

Interesting, thanks a lot for the replies.... 10 watts rms, eh? Man, that's pretty crappy, heh. Can you find y-adapters pretty easily for cheap? I mean, do wal-marts or radio shacks have them usually? 'Cause if they're cheap, I'd love to use that for a while and then get a new head unit later...

    Head unit power/capabilities

So far in my '96 Saturn SC2 I haven't done anything with the speakers or cd player. When I bought it (used), it had a Clarion cd player that isn't in very good shape. It works fine and plays cd's, but it gets all messed up when the weather is cold and it's just not as....nice as I'd like. I...

    infinity reference subs???

Far as I know, references are not very loud. Supposedly made solely for quality, and not really spl at all. Haven't heard them myself though. I also think that people more often compare Infinity Kappa Perfects to Alpine Type R's, not Infinity References to Type R's. The Perfects are the...

Profile CL800 2-channel amp: Will it work with my subs?

Okay, so if I bought that amp, I'd bridge them together, then split them to wire to my dual voice coil subs? That seems kinda weird. How will bridging and then splitting be any more effective than just running them to separate places in the first place? I'm confused.... I mean, they list the...

Profile CL800 2-channel amp: Will it work with my subs?

Whoops.... just realized the person in the thread i was reading was actually talking about the soundstream amps.... In that case, I found the amp the person was talking about, and I'm a tad confused. It says it does 150 x 2 at 4 ohms. That definitely wouldn't be enough. However, a couple lines...

Profile CL800 2-channel amp: Will it work with my subs?

Hey guys, I'm looking for an amp to give each of my dual 4-ohm voice coil subs about 300-400 watts, somewhere in there. I understand that they can either run at 1 ohm or 4 ohm.... But I'm still a little unsure of what exactly that means. After hearing mention of millionbuy.com, I checked it out...

JBL 600.1 REALLY stable at 1 ohm, or not?

So I can wire my subs at either 2 or 4 ohms? I'm a little confused about that. Not much experience with wiring; could anyone explain how I would do this, and whether there are any benefits of lower ohms or higher ohms? I mean, with the same subs and same wattage, can you notice a difference...

JBL 600.1 REALLY stable at 1 ohm, or not?

So what's the conclusion here.... Look for somethin' else more stable at 1-ohm, or wire it some different way to run it at 2 ohms? I think I heard something about series-parallel for that, but I forget. Anyone have any suggestions?

JBL 600.1 REALLY stable at 1 ohm, or not?

I'm planning an upgrade, and the subs are both dual 4-ohm voice coils. The rms is 350, so I thought it'd be a good match to get the jbl 600.1 mono amp and give each 300-350 watts (I definitely don't want to blow them). But some people have warned me that the jbl gets warm at 1-ohm and doesn't...

    Sold anyone need custom boxes?

I think it's pretty cool how some of you guys are doing this. Custom box-building is a GREAT idea, especially for a site like this where there are tons of people in need of boxes who don't really know how to build them/don't have the tools to. I wish I knew how to do this.... Even if I didn't...

Where do I put the amp (in the trunk)?

All right, I've seen all of those hella-cool installs with subs and amps mounted everywhere and all that kinda stuff, but to be honest, I'm just not at all skilled in that kind of stuff, and I don't have access to the tools necessary anyway (even though I don't know what you need, I'm sure I...

    DVC vs. 2 subs

Have you considered getting two DVC's? I'm no expert at all, but as far as I know you can definitely run dual DVC subs. I think they're usually dual 4-ohm voice coils, so you'd be running a 1-ohm load and would need to get a 1-ohm stable amp, but it can be done and is pretty common I think.
