Will a larger wire potentially help with sound quality or no?

Hi guys, I'm getting some alternator whine after a new head unit install and I want to try a different ground location. I am wondering if using a larger gauge wire for the ground will be helpful, or if the larger wire might actually cause even more noise. Thanks in advance!

One other question. The Pioneer speakers are 4 ohm and 100W RMS rated. The Recoil amp does 80W @ 4 ohm, and the alpine does 40W @ 4 ohm. Wouldn't both amps be underpowering the Pioneer speakers?

Thanks very much for the suggestions! They all make good sense. The only concern I'd have is I don't believe either sub option would fit under the seat as desired, but I'll do some measuring and see.

Not sure if you ever figured this out but I read on the Honda Odyssey forum it may actually be coming from the VCM kicking in. This would make sense as you say it goes away when you're accelerating. Does the thumping coincide with your ECO light coming on?

Thanks for the reply Carloss.  I actually ended up just buying an Alpine PDR M65 Amp which the certificate said puts out 796 watts and can run a 2 OHM sub.  The single Boston now really sounds great and it was much easier and cheaper to just swap out the amp than to have to pay for a 2nd...
