Help - Wiring an aftermarket headunit

I'm attempting my first install and as a newbie, I've ran into a few snags. I’m driving (4) 6.5s off a 4 channel amp. My question is: Since I’m driving my (4) 6.5s off the 4 channel amp, should I have any wires running from the back of the head unit (wiring harness) to the amplifier or...

WTF?! One of the battery terminals melted while the car was off?!

As the title says, the positive terminal on my battery melted while the car was off. Or at least that's what the body shops claims. My car is the process of being repainted due to a crash that it suffered on the right hand corner. According to the shop, it was sitting there while it...

What's the deal with sloooww USB loading??

My very old Kenwood head unit is on its last days and it's time to move up to something else. For quite a while I've been wanting to get a head unit with USB capability, but from what I've been hearing and seeing for myself, the USB drives load speed is painfully slow. My plans were to pack...

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

With the sub being able to haldle up to 300 rms, how would you recomend that I get the amp wired? The MB Quart ONX1.1000D ◦4 ohms: 475 watts x 1 chan. ◦2 ohms: 750 watts x 1 chan. ◦1 ohm: 1000 watts x 1 chan. Thanks

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

I took the W6 to a local shop to be repaired. I'm getting charged $20. The guy really seems to know what he's doing.... I guess we'll see how it turns out. I'll post pics next week.

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

The shop wired the sub at 2 ohms and the amp at 2ohms.

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

As far as the gain and the wiring, the shop assured me that all was wired and set correctly. I haven't touched the gains on the amp....However, I do see a problem with having to mess with all those settings in order to make it sound decent. I'm seriouisly considering re-foaming my W6.. but...

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

Did the kit come with all the necessary hardware like the shims? Also, how was the quality of the foam? I've heard that some companies use very cheap material that hinders the subs performance.

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

Yeah, the SQ was definitely better with the W6... but it also hit harder. As far as the box goes... it gives it the recomended air space and it's the same box that I used for the W6. Who knows... maybe it is holding it back. If I were to do a re-foam, any kits or places that you guys...

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

When I do all of those things, there isn't much bass coming from the Sub. I have it in an MTX figerglass stealth box. It's about .7 Cubic feet and it's being powered by a MB Quart ONX1.1000D @ 2 ohms.

Thinking about re-foaming my old school JL w6v1... is it worth it?

Several days ago, I got a brand new Alpine type 3 1043D sub in my 2000 Z28 Camaro. I thought that it would blow my VERY old 10 inch JLW6V1 out of the water, but it just doesn't sound as good. I'm not sure if it was installed incorrectly, but the W6 seemed to fill my car with base unlike the...

My amp stopped working... which amp would you recommend for my Type R?

Thanks to everyone for all the info!

My amp stopped working... which amp would you recommend for my Type R?

I wasn't aware that I could wire the sub to 2ohms. If that's the case, it's definitely going to make it easier to find an amp. If I get the sub wired at 2 ohms, is it going to have a higher RMS than it did at 4ohms? As far as my budget, since a new amp wasn't in the plans, it's not all that...

My amp stopped working... which amp would you recommend for my Type R?

First off, I wish to thank this board and its' members. Thanks to the input, I've been able to build a very nice system for a very reasonable price. Today I went to get everything installed and I got some very unexpected news. My mono amp that was supposed to power my Alpine Type R swr-1043D...
