What do you mean by popping? Like constant popping, that's all they would do, or some popping with some bass?

In that case, why don't you just wire the 2 subs seperately? One sub to each pair of terminals, that way if you experience any wire shortage or any problems in one set of wires you'll only need to mess with those? Just my opinion, I try to keep things simple.

I believe it all depends on the total wattage that you're pushing through the wire. I have a 13w7 with a 500/1 hooked up to it right now and I ran into some problems using 12 awg... the speaker terminal connector on your box will get hot if the wire gauge isn't large enough... heat indicates...
