Help me choose a 5 channel amp please

Class AB will ALWAYS produce cleaner and better sound overall than any Class D amplifier. Class D amps are smaller and require less power. A decent choice for a subwoofer, but NOT for a 5 channel amp. If you want real good sound, the only 5 channel amplifier I would suggest is an OS...

    Setting up Dual amps

The answer to your question depends on the total current draw of both amps. Without doing the numbers, in general an 8 gauge wire running longer than 8 feet will not adequately service 400 watts of power from one or more amplifiers. To know for sure, you will need to calculate the total...

How much power on stock electrical?

Hi, Wevie: I agree with the post stating a 125 amp alternator can maybe run as much as 1500 watts. I am assuming you are running class AB amplifiers. If on the other hand you run one or more Class D amplifiers (I wouldn't recommend them except for a sub woofer however), they may draw less...

    Orion HCCA 425 Question

Hello, all: I don't go on this forum much these days. But I just picked up a stunningly beautiful Orion HCCA 425 "poptop" amp. I am adding it to my collection of HCCA amps (I have two HCCA 250s and one HCCA 2100). Has anyone here had experience with this amplifier running just plain old...

    No output from amp!

Hi, Matt: If the amplifier goes into "protect mode", I assume you mean it shuts off. If the amplifier is actually on but there is no audio signal coming out, you have an internal problem with the amplifier if you have already checked your ground connection for problems or the positive wire...

Soundstream Reference 500s. whats it worth?

Agreed. $150 is a good price. If the cosmetic condition is new, you can probably get more in an auction on eBay.

At 800w RMS max is the difference between 1ohm and 2ohm even noticable? 1kW Amp fine?

The lower resistance may produce more "power", but the amplifier will generate more heat, which if you like the amplifier and want it to last, is a bad thing. My philosophy is to run no lower than 2 ohms and if that is not enough power I buy a more powerful amplifier.

    Soundstream Ref 405 new?

I have 2 Reference 405 amplifiers I have owned since new (one from around 1995, other, a 405s, from 1997), and have had them fixed for some problems, but they keep going just fine. I would personally have no problem buying a used 405 or 405s and if it developed a problem, have it repaired...

    Non rap bass songs?

Emerson, Lake & Palmer. First album. I believe the name of the song is "Tank". You'll know when you play the album, it is at the end of the song. It is the best test of a woofer or sub woofer of any song out there. Guaranteed to challenge both cone and voice coil.

    CD changer compatibility

Does anyone know a resource for finding out which model Sony CD changer will work with a given model Sony deck? I looked for this on Sony's web site, nothing there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    CD Changer issue

Hello, all: First, I want to thank all who have helped me in the past on this site. This web forum has been extremely helpful to me in purchasing some used equipment and in answering other questions. Thank you all for your help. (I bought several Orion old school HCCA amplifiers with the...

    Speaker problems

Almost sounds like your amplifier PCB is dumping high voltage to the speakers. Sounds like it is AC voltage, which at least says the amp is sending out the right information, just too much.

    help please...no sound but subs

Not enough information about your system. How many amplifiers are driving your satellites and your subs? Or is the amplification coming out of the HU? There are many possibilities for that problem. But we would need to know if no sound signal is going to the speakers. For that you will need...

    Pre-out voltages?

If you want to increase the pre amp output voltage going into your amp, you can do it with a number of products from Audio Control that will step up the voltage with a variable adjustment. Stepping up the voltage works well to cancel out external electrical noise from other sources from your...
