So, are y'all pretty sure that's the only problem? Could it have anything to do with the RCA cables?

I agree, but I don't want to put a single 10 sub in the back. :-/ It's more space than I want to use up, in fact I was having trouble deciding where I'd even mount an amp.

those CDTs are beautiful but I think they're a bit out of my price range. do the tangbands have to be used in IB? Or can they be mounted like a 6.5" coaxial?

Personally I'd go with Alpine Type X SPX-17PRO's. You can get them for something like $200 now days, then you can pick up a JL 300/2v2 to power them, they'll keep up with that w7 and the tweeters on this set sound better than Rainbow Ref series IMO!

I downgraded from a 15" RL-p a while back to a 10" diamond d6 so I'd have more trunk space, but I want more sound now. Would I be able to get more efficiency in box size from this 10"d6, from 2 8" rl-i's, or from a 15"*insertsomethingunder$300here*? I think I have about 2.5 cubes max to work...
