    Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X693

You could play around with the EQ presets and choose one that emphasizes the bass range more. Or you could setup a User EQ curve that customizes the bass range for your needs. See page 31 in the manual. Also, if your vehicle has a separate subwoofer, you may want to just tweak that level...

    Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X693

Setting the date and time is very clearly explained in the manual. I'm not in front of my X693 or manual right now, but I'm pretty sure you have to be in Standby mode, then it is in the first level menu, which I believe is called "Menu".

Need RCA cables with low profile plugs...

Thanks much for the info! I normally don't support Monster Cable, but those seem to be just what I need, so I went ahead and ordered them. Thanks again.

Ipod, USB flash drive(s), or USB HD?

Thanks for the replies. Not much love for the Ipod so far. Before I posted I was actually kinda leaning towards USB flash drives. Regarding my CD collection, I actually have probably around 600 to 700, but I probably listen to maybe 200 or 300 the most. The others rarely get played. If I...

Ipod, USB flash drive(s), or USB HD?

I just got a Kenwood KDC-X693 head unit and am trying to figure out if I want to get an Ipod Classic, USB flash drive(s), or USB HD to interface with it. I've played around with a small USB flash drive that I had laying around and that seems to work great, however, I need more capacity as I...

how do you guys deal with phase cancelation?

I'm more of a home audio guy, but I can vouch that flat or close to flat can/does sound really good at decent volume levels.....to a huge amount of people. At lower levels, it may not sound as good because Fletcher-Munson kicks in. That's where custom EQ or "LOUD" EQ curve adjustments can come...

Need RCA cables with low profile plugs...

I considered that, but to avoid hitting the chassis they would have to sit vertical & pointing downward, then the 6 RCA female jacks would interfere/block each other since they are close together. i.e. if you put 90 degree plugs into the top set of RCAs, it would most likely be in the way...

Need RCA cables with low profile plugs...

I just installed a Kenwood KDC-X693 head unit and it has its RCA plug connections built directly into the back of the head unit. Here's a pic of the X693: My prior head unit had its RCA plugs on a pigtail connector, which worked fine, but I'm running into some vehicle mounting depth issues...

    Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X693

What I don't like about the 693 after a few days of use: 1. As others have said, the display can be difficult to see when there is direct sunlight. The problem is not the brightness level of the display, but rather the shininess/reflectivity of the faceplate. It would have been nice if...

    Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X693

I got a 693 to replace my old Kenwood Excelon KDC-PS907 (it died for a second time....had it repaired once, but not gonna do it again). This is my first head unit purchase since the 907, which I believe I bought in 1998. I got the 693 installed in my 1991 Toyota 4x4 today. My how things have...

Hooking a hard drive up to your audio system?

Actually, I thought my collection was rather small-medium. I know people who have over 5,000 CDs.

Hooking a hard drive up to your audio system?

For ease of access, I've been considering ripping my 600+ CD collection to a hard drive. The heck with compression and Ipods.....why not just rip lossless to a big hard drive? If my math is correct, a 500GB hard drive should be more than enough and allow for growth of my collection. Some...

    Alpine CDA-9887 Listed in Crutchfield

Ahhh....the memories of dying DMASK Kenwood head units. I've got a PS907 (deadhead from around 1997/1998) in the dash of my truck right now. I had it repaired back in 2000 and it has failed again. I'm trying to decide if I want to have it repaired (a guy on Ebay will fix it for around $50...
