Should I mess with the other two knobs, there are total of three, one is for gain and others are for frequencies and something else?

Ok, I got a 15" alpine type R sub, and am trying to hook it to Mtx thunder 1501d (mono) amp. What would be the best way to hook it up?? sub is dual 2 ohms amp is 2/4 ohm stable I was thinking could I connect two separate terminals from the amp to each vc, would this work?
