    Sub output question

Yes. I had to retrofit my box with "legs" to do this. My next box will have downfiring in the design. I don't have an SPL meter but I suspect I gained 1-2 db doing that.

Ports vs. Sealed specific to a convertible (sq).

I googled for "loading board" and convertibles and didn't find anything. Is there another name for it I could look for? Thanks

    Sub output question

Thanks for the help everyone. The specs say the optimimum sealed box is .65 cu for that sub. Thats why I figured the .75 would be fine, I figured wrong! What would you guys give it sealed? HookMeUp: I am thinking about going ported on this sub (just to get more output), if I do I am going...

    Sub output question

Sorry, I meant the new R version.

Ports vs. Sealed specific to a convertible (sq).

For a convertible, wouldn't a ported box (in theory) have a better response curve than a sealed box? If you look at the response curve of a sealed sub there is a nice gradual dropoff at 60ish hz or so. In theory cabin gain (in a normal car) would replace that curve with a +12db gain so...

    Sub output question

Any idea why an Infinity 1042w be (way) louder than an alpine 1042d in a .75 cu box with 350 w rms power? Does it just take a whole lot more power to get any output out of a 1042d? The alpine is so quiet now that if I am driving down the road with the top down (the car is a convertible) I...

    The Official Type R Thread

What would be the best sealed box volume for an Alpine SWR-1042D? Crutchfield says 1.0 but the spec sheet recommends .65.

    Box sanity check

Here is my deal. I had an infinity sub (1042 reference) in a .75 box and it was pretty loud. I decided to upgrade to a Type R sub only to find that in a sealed box it wasn't very loud at all. I am runing 350 watts RMS and I really don't want to have to buy a new amp to get some SPL out of...

    Box sanity check

FOSGATE JOE: No, I didn't. I forgot to include port volume (my first ported box) and I wasn't aware you had to figure in speaker volume. Thanks for the heads up. All: what would you recommend I tune to? Thanks a ton for helping the newb out.

    Box sanity check

I used winISD to design a box for my 10 inch type R. I came up with a 1.5 ft ^3 box (24.26x12x7.7 internal dimensions). I used 25 hz as a tuning frequency and that gave me a port of 3 inches x 17.72 inches. This is my first time ever designing a ported enclosure so I thought I would come...

    Yea, what SAG3 said.

    The Official Type R Thread

I would have no problem going ported if it wasn't for the size of my trunk. Mustang convertibles have no space for subs. I might be able to get a 1.5 stuffed in there, but 2 would be a bit much. If the 350 ends up being overpowered by my components (type R alpines on a 100x2 amp) I will...

    The Official Type R Thread

I am getting ready to build a box for a SWR-1042D and I noticed on crutchfield's site they say 1.0 cu feet (they say claim to have updated information from alpine) where as the manual that comes with the sub says .65 cu fu. Anyone know why there is a discrepancy? What is the best possible...
