Mounting:
These speakers can be easily mounted in a variety of 6¾" applications. Given the required cutout, they will also fit into the opening for a typical 6½" speaker (approximately 5" diameter cutout) but the screw hole pattern is larger than a standard 6½", so new holes would have to be drilled. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

The frames remind me of a/d/s ' last speaker sets and the JBL t-595 6x9s. Would you peg these Sony sets on par as those?
I think that's a tough question. The original ADS drivers, way back in the mid-70's to early/mid 80's, is where I cut my teeth on car audio; they were pretty amazing.

One of the first car configs I toyed with was when I pulled apart a cabinet damaged set of A\D\S bookshelf 6.5 2-ways that I picked up at a swap meet. Took the drivers and x-overs out and mounted them in the doors of my my Mazda Rx2 along with 4 very good 8" Phillips drivers and an additional pair of those same early years Made by Peerless for A\D\S tweeters too, in the back package tray, through a power inverter in car from my dads RV, big o'le pure sine wave inverter that my EE bro made, or modified, can't recall.

We threw a Pioneer SX-780 receiver in the trunk, and man, I got to tell ya, I was hooked. Granted, the Realistic cassette deck from RadioShack wasn't a stellar component, but everyone who laughed at the idea, didn't laugh when they listened to the sound, it was pretty amazing considering.

Could kill a a battery pretty quick so showing off in the school parking lot was always a brief endeavor. The A\D\S car line that came later was pretty stellar too, until it wasn't, same with JBN.

That said the JBL Arena X line, like the Sony BeTA line is nothing short of outstanding too.

That said, different philosophy's and design concepts/approaches. I've been to the Sony facilities in San Diego, and R&D in Tokyo, Pioneer R&D on that trip as well.

Sony and Pioneer, JBL, they are household names for a reason and their R&D over the years is nothing short of amazing.

I personally think these sound much better than the JBL t-595 6x9s, much begetter detail, texture, uncolored playback, very good indeed.

The proprietary synthetic soft dome is surprisingly light airy and accurate without getting washed out, like many other brands using polyester (sounds like "tish-tish" instead of a clean tis-tis) which was improved by the Tetron lines, but not as nice as these, that's to my ears anyway.

These woofer cones are pretty stellar too, using their proprietary Rigid Cellular Aramid Fiber Matrix cone cleans up the upper midrange well, and doesn't color it up like the JBL's do and the 65-80 pops pretty good.

I was pretty surprised when I first heard them, not sure why, I run the Sony BeTA Beryllium tweeters now and absolutely love them.

And thus the quest continues, once I started using the Be tweeters, not thinking I'll ever go back to anything else, frankly, they cost as much as both of these sets are selling together but once you get a good set tuned in, there's really no going back.
