DS18 SLC10S in a 0.9 cubic foot sealed enclusure?

Hello, I am replacing a sub in a 0.9 cubic foot enclosure with 5.5" mounting depth (wedge behind the seat). I am looking at the DS18 SLC10S sub, but am worried the volume is too large. I could also possibly put a port in the enclosure, but I wouldn't know what size to make it. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a 0.9 and you need 1.25, you can stuff a few pounds of rockwool in there to increase the apparent volume seen by the driver.
A long while back I posted a chart for how much to use. I'll see if I can dig it up.

That driver is actually suited to perform best in a sealed box. Throw it in that .9, put a pound of Acousta-stuf in there, you'll hit around 39 hz at 3db, with cabin gain, you should be just fine.

No luck on the chart, but if memory serves, it was about 1lb to get 15-20% more apparent interior volume.

There has always been a lot of argument from both sides, kind of like, which budget CLD is the best...

I've always said that while the percieved exaggerated volume theory is accurate, I always stuff my sealed boxes because they just sound better. Rule of thum-p is 1 lb per cu ft of airspace.

Recent testing by several individuals has shown me that it (stuffing) may be more about the reduction of intermodulation distortion within the box itself, which I found very interesting.

I've always said, some things you can hear can't always be measured, and now, looks like maybe they can. ;)

I did order the DS18 SLC10S, and it should be delivered today. I started planning on shrinking the box from .9 to .5 cubic feet, and realized it won't be simple. Putting that much 2x4s and 2x6 in through the 10 inch hole is going to be difficult. Any suggestions?

Why are you trying to knock the box volume down to 0.5?
Doesn't PE recommend 1.0 cu ft (sealed) for that driver?

Just looked up the specs on this sub. QTS = .774, FS = 40hz, VAS = 1.03cuft.

I think .9cuft will be fine. It's a high Q sub - like Infinite Baffle high Q. FS is a little high too, so I think it would benefit from the oversized enclosure. Technically, based on the TS specs, I would say .5cuft is too small. I'd put in the .9cuft enclosure with stuffing. Be careful with the power in that enclosure. I don't know much about that sub, but mechanical power handling may suffer in the bigger enclosure.

I've shrank boxes using closed cell expanding foam like Great Stuff. That becomes a little bit of guess work. Read the other posts, I don't think there is any need to shrink the enclosure. As a matter of fact, I think you'll need some polyfil stuffing instead.

Me thinks you're overthinking it. I modeled it in .9, looks great. Stuff it, sealed, good to go in a .9 cu ft box.
