Has Trump said he wants them to be able to leave Romania? I thought he said "be nicer."

Maybe Trump doesn't think the Tates should be trapped in Romania "forever" while Romania has this open ended investigation going on that they seem to be able to put together.
No, not "be nicer". They are pushing for their passports to be returned so they can travel freely.
They are already allowed to travel around Romania, where they chose to live. Passports not needed for that.

What is so special about them that they should be allowed to travel freely? Do we do the same with people being prosecuted here?
You think they are being trapped "forever" by being able to roam freely in the place where they live, while the case pends court?

Clearly I do, but Trump and you do not.

An import tariff gets applied once the product has hit US customs and must be paid before the product is released from customs.
In order to get that product. the IMPORTER must pay the tariff on things above de minimis. Otherwise, the product doesn't get handed over.

Hence the name IMPORT TARIFF.
Any IMPORT TARIFF that Trump imposes gets paid this way. It is nothing new.

And making us pay more for the goods we import doesn't help to offset the sales lost if the EU stops importing our goods.
I don't think any of us were looking for your interpretation of tariffs Rob. If Trump and his administration didn't know how to use them they wouldn't be using them. If you know so much more than everyone else why are you the President? Or advising the President... or not fetching coffee?

Wait are you say the DOGE team isn't perfect? I'm convinced. That's it pull the plug on DOGE or any further efforts to cut waste out of gov't spending.
If they don't even know how the system works, how can we know they are getting accurate info about what's going on in it?
I'm still waiting for the stats on how many CPAs are on the team that suddenly Trump claims Musk is not in charge of, and has no power to do anything. Except cancel gov't contracts, and dismantle departments, of course...

"Interpretation". As if there are multiple variations of what an import tariff actually is.
I suppose you think there are "interpretations" of the local taxes collected when you buy some speaker wire at the local store?

THIS is what a tariff is. THIS is what the US Government says a tariff is.
THIS is another one of those situations where your opinion of what something is, doesn't affect the REALITY of what something is.
Perhaps your inability to comprehend such basic concepts that are very clearly delineated in so many places is why you deliver pizza and can't hold down a steady job?

"When a good enters a U.S. port of entry, merchandise is classified and tariffs are assessed using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), a compendium of tariff rates based on a globally standardized nomenclature. Today, importers self-classify and declare the value or quantity of their goods. CBP reviews the paperwork, performs occasional audits, and then collects any applicable tariffs or penalties as well as any administrative fees. Finally, CBP deposits any revenue from tariffs or other penalties into the General Fund of the United States."

Are you thinking perhaps that Congress, CBP, USITC, WTO, USTR, have all gotten it wrong since 1789, but somehow Trump and YOU have figured out the error of their ways?
The government has mistakenly been charging import tariffs to the importers for 236 YEARS?

Wow. Talk about fraud, huh? That's TRILLIONS of dollars in money stolen from importers.

Oh geeez. I said a trigger word.

Again, if you think you know better, go join the team and tell everyone what to do. Otherwise you are just bowing hot air. Join DOGE... should be easy for a guy like you. Maybe, just maybe you could figure out all the ways the government pockets the extra taxes we all pay and you can make yourself Pelosi rich!

This has dragging on for 1.5 years and they seem to have a weak/unprosecutable case. I'm no expert on the Tate case, but it just seems to be treading water.

Trump seems to know exactly how to use them and had been doing so already b

So you want us to accept that these guys don't know what they're doing because they made this mistake??? Is that a standard you hold yourself and others to???

You mean you used a word you obviously don't understand.

What does any of that have to do with your inability to understand the simple concept of an import tariff?

And maybe I'd rather be McCaul rich:

– Republican Representative from Texas
– Estimated net worth: $125.9 million

"Though Michael McCaul reports that all of his trading is executed by his wife and children, he’s demonstrated a range of potential conflicts of interest. These include trading IBM and Accenture stocks while sitting on the House Homeland Security Committee, trading UPS shares after a congressional hearing where a USP executive testified, and trading Meta investments during congressional investigations into the company’s handling of misinformation."
